webfact
National—On April 1st, 2024, Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, the Deputy Prime Minister, publicly mentioned after Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin gave a special interview to France 24, a French news agency, regarding bringing marijuana back into an illicit substance type as it caused more negative impacts to Thai people than economic benefits, according to the PM. Regarding the current government policy to use cannabis for medical, economic, and research purposes, Anutin stated that he agreed as it was from the previous government in which he was the former Minister of Public Health. When the policy was explained to the Thai Parliament, it was as if it had already been explained to all Thai people, remarked Anutin. However, some members of the Thai government aimed to change the policy to list marijuana back to an illicit substance type which would criminalize marijuana once again, bringing jail time for even small amounts of the plant, and in which it could be used for medical aspects only. He didn't give a rats about public health, the way he mis-handled the Covid policies, and opened a free-for-all wed culture.. medicinal use only my ar$e. Giving free plants to every household, allowing weed shops to spring up and sell it without a prescription was a vote buying tactic. 3 1 1

Particularly all these cigarette smoking asian males. Both locals and foreigners. Should be a warning on Trip Advisor for non smokers so they can avoid the outside cigarette smoke in places like Pattaya. 3

Politicians who do not know about the consequences of their doing , but do it anyway ... Everybody would laugh if it would not be so sad ... How does some other country ever want to do some business with Thailand ...? Thais are no reliable partners . Maybe with the next government things will change ...? Hope dies last . 1 3
crazykopite
Would be interesting to see if the Reform party mention it in there next manifesto to make it fully legal that would certainly be a vote winner . Notice how they fail to bring up the promised 10,000 baht handout for all Thais above the age of 16 seems uncle Tony party is full of broken promises 1

Dogmatix
Problem is that Thaksin is the one calling the shots and he wants it recriminalized. Srettha has no power, so it doesn't matter what he thinks. Anutin is unhappy about it but pleased with his money making opportunities and power at the Interior and also jockeying for position in the casino project.
