I was back in California a few months ago and it definitely was not the same as when I'd left in 2001. OC was chok full of Asians of all persuasions replacing the Whites. It was shockingly woke for South OC. Between the US transplants, immigrants it just doesn't have the same feel. Prices outside Costco for much of anything were utterly ridiculous. Everyone's home needs repair because no one can afford it. Homes over 1M originally sold for well under 50k.

You can always go home, but you can never go back

Nothing there for me. I'd reluctantly move to Florida.

Seems like South Orange County, California is in this weird animated state (perhaps like FL) where no one has any real history there. Between the il/legal immigrants, the transplants and all the internal movement. It was a very weird thing - like returning home from an insanely long holiday and finding total strangers in your home.

I don't see how most will retire as if nothing else taxes so high and only set to go higher.

Many of my Pinoy friends have gone back to PI.

They were not poor, they had good businesses, houses and fancy cars. And plenty of cash.

That's telling the CA story - if PI is better than SoCal game's over...

I think anyone who voted for this and is now leaving CA should be turned back at the state line. Having ruined their state, they try to flee to another state to do it again there.

There will always be Koreans, Chinese, Indians, Persians, ...ians from overseas to fill the void. All escaping home countries.

My friend has some Mc tracthouse in So OC. Crap build, needs proper renovation - 1.1M. Could sell it tomorrow.

Not necessarily. The ones leaving didn't vote for the past decades. Southern and Northern CA was a time they were so politically different that we often thought of splitting the state in two or even more pieces. OC was pretty conservation socially, fiscally. Even pockets of LA county. .

Prop 13 😊

My parents were legal but I'd say half of the other people they worked with were illegal, all paid by I'm sure fully paid up GOP members!

America is a very funny country;

Republicans scream for "new tough laws" and want to "kick illegal immigrants out" but they approved (with dems) "special driver licenses" to them 🙂 in 19 states.

Why? Because their builder pals don't have enough workers. Very smart move (...but let's keep it secret...).

There are many voters in the USA who love a certain political ideology despite the fact that the associated policies are not in their best interest.

You are absolutely right!

When I tell in many countries "I left CA" they can't believe it...

It still is THE place for 90% of young people in most places.

And 90% of Asians love it, specially Chinese, no matter what. They keep coming.

PS. I liked the fact it WAS NOT infested by narrow minded republicans...

I hardly think that the Pinoy priorities when comparing CA and PI are applicable to the general population.

I've been seeing Florida is having some costly readjustments to Homeowner insurance, property tax increase and HOA dues. I own multiple properties in Calif and the one big reason for not selling and buying elsewhere is property taxes. Because for all it's faults Ca still has relatively low property taxes for longtime owners.

I was recently in Florida and while it's nice, it would take some time to adjust to the people there.

Yes - that's the key. If you keep for a long time no big increases. At the beginning they were non.

But if you make major improvements, like I did, taxes will go up 30-60%. It still paid off because I got re-zoning for 4 houses on my twin lot.

Zoning changes are quite easy to do and can bring a huge return.

Good for you! As long as sun is up CA will do well as investment but I'd not want to live there.

Well California property taxes are all special due to Prop13 back in the day

My ex wife, who I still love death, pays less tax on her three bed house than I do on my 2 bed condo's
