Scoop: Biden plans order to limit southern border crossings by end of month

In a significant development indicating a shift in immigration policy, President Biden hinted at the possibility of issuing an executive order to curtail the influx of asylum-seekers crossing the southern border. This revelation came during an interview with Univision, where Biden underscored his intention to address rising voter dissatisfaction with the current situation.

While the specifics of the executive order are still being finalized, sources indicate that it could be implemented by the end of April. The proposed order would likely invoke Section 212(f) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, granting the president broad authority to restrict the entry of certain immigrants deemed detrimental to U.S. national interests. This strategy mirrors tactics employed by former President Trump, who frequently utilized this section to enforce immigration policies.

Acknowledging the legal and political complexities surrounding such a move, Biden expressed a willingness to explore the extent of his executive powers. He noted that while there is uncertainty about the legality of unilateral action without congressional approval, he is prepared to proceed and face any potential legal challenges that may arise.

Biden's approach signals a departure from previous rhetoric emphasizing the need for legislative solutions to address border issues. Instead, he appears poised to take decisive action in response to mounting public pressure. Despite acknowledging the uncertainty surrounding the extent of his authority, Biden seems determined to explore all available avenues to address the situation at the border.

The prospect of an executive order limiting asylum claims underscores the administration's commitment to addressing border security concerns. However, the move is likely to spark debate and scrutiny, both within the administration and among legal experts and advocacy groups. As the details of the executive order are finalized, its implications for immigration policy and broader political dynamics will become clearer.

Trump will be lovin' this. His base will love it too. Imagine that, Biden having to reinstate the directives he stopped after taking office. This is just too good, LOL, LOL, LOL.

  • Biden is in desperation mode. To late to impress voters.

  • If anyone believes he won't do a 180 the day after the election, I have a bridge I'll sell them.  It's in Baltimore.

Indeed he is. Only the Trump haters will not see how desperate he is.

Do the Dems regret that they have no one better to put up there instead?

Reality check as most responsible successful presidents have done in the past they wait for legislation to address problems the senate hashed out the strongest legislation in decades to address this problem, trump had his spineless cowards in the house kill it because trump doesn’t want the government to function.now come November when the democrats control the house senate and presidency it’s definitely questionable if they will adopt the bill as originally preposed by the senate my guess is they will add language to protect the dreamers.

Adopting Trump's policies in a futile attempt to cling to power. 😃

If somehow he manages to win again he'll reverse this within days. What a charlatan. No shame whatsoever.

We'll just fly them in now. They don't even need to leave their country. We'll pick them up.

Naaa I’m an American I remember when government functioned like it should through legislation not being forced to do things via executive orders trump killed border security pure and simple so the troll farms have something to blovate about thinking they can confuse what is really taking place and try to sully Biden’s governance not to worry the house will soon be in dem hands so we can move forward again as a country

You really shouldn't open your mouth and "blovate"(bloviate) so much about what you have no knowledge of... executive orders have been a part of the presidency since GEORGE WASHINGTON... as he was the first...Executive Orders | The American Presidency Project (ucsb.edu)... in recent history the two parties are fairly even in number... but the dems are in the lead.

Republicans first participate in bi-lateral border legislation, then on the eve of the vote they get a call from Trump and pull the plug.

Leaving Biden with no other option than to implement executive orders.

Republicans then claim Biden is copying Trump.

My punt is it will not involve separating children from their parents, throwing the children in cages and then losing the records so the children can’t be united with their parents.

Or indeed any other form of over cruelty that characterized Trump’s policies.

Prudent that Biden will examine whether or not he got that power under the legislation for an executive order. In this toxic political environment, the Maga GOP may go to the court to challenge the executive order as they don't want solutions to the border problems just like they kill the bipartisan immigration bill. GOP are never sincere in solving the border problems till November.

That’s the game they are at.

If only they hadn't solved the problems, before Joe's executive orders unsolved them.

Joe just made 3 glaring admissions:

1) The border is a mess.  It is not, as the Biden team has insisted, "secure"

2) He doesn't care about the border (or nation security), just the votes and just in an election year.

3) He's had the power all along, but chose not to exercise it. In fact, he chose to exercise the power to make it worse. By leaps and bounds.

The power to legislate resides with Congress.

Congress agreed a bi-partisan resolution, which the Republicans then pulled the plug on to appease their master.

Facts matter!

All false claims. Dishonest assertions.

1. Biden never said the border is secured. He categorically said "No, it's not "when asked by Fox whether border is secured.

2. Biden from his first day in office called on Congress to act to address the broken immigration system. Over the past 3 years while waiting for Congress to act (never came), he secured more resources for border security than Trump.

3. He is a law and order President and used his power within the purview of the legistation. It's the dysfunctional Congress that refused to reach across the aisle to solve the border problems.

Executive orders are a method used as a last resort when legislation has failed or in this case squandered to give trump something to convince the rubes to elect him.executive orders are also used when action is needed immediately with no time for a legislative solution they are a method of last resort

Looks the dreams are all yours if you reckon Biden to be either responsible or successful.

You said last resort (twice), although Biden signed 25 EO's in his first 8 days. Democratic, my arm.

Boy do you live in a delusional world... this is joe's pledge prior to the 2020 election... Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden is pledging to dismantle the sweeping changes President Trump has made to the American immigration system, if he wins the White House in November.

The laws were already in place when joe took over... the 2020 election pledge from joe changed that... Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden is pledging to dismantle the sweeping changes President Trump has made to the American immigration system, if he wins the White House in November.

The poster you quoted must live in a wonderful dream world. I wonder if there is enough room in it for me or is it just for himself?

Joe could show his commitment to border security by "building a wall". Pity that he apparently sold off all the bits that were waiting to be erected for the previous POTUS's wall.

Perhaps razor wire would work, but he'd have to tell his border guards not to keep cutting it.
