I need a root canal I emailed this dentist in Pattaya with this reply 

 

 

😬Thank you for your email. Your inquiry for the cost of root canal treatment on a molar tooth is 10,000 THB. need 2-3 appointments in 7-10 days. When you finish the root canal dentist recommends doing a post 5,000 THB./tooth and crown 10,000 - 15,000 THB/tooth (depending on the material inside). need 2-3 appointments in 7-10 days. 😬

 

I have to do some research into exactly if I need a Crown and WHAT type of Crown.,sounds like the full cost will be between 25k -30k

 

What kind of CROWN do you guys recommend?

A crown is a crown which is a cap ok

Don't bother - just get the tooth pulled out. The crown ("cap") will be broken in ten years anyway and you'll have a never ending story of  the tooth being drilled down to nothing to fit a new crown (aka "cap")

 

Then get a denture fitted.

As already suggested,why not have the tooth taken out,you'll still be able to chew and you would should be able to manage without a denture.

What dentist in Pattaya sent you this response? Make an appointment with Dr Warin on Klang for an accurate response. I had a broken tooth under a crown and his wife wanted to do a root canal. Dr Warin looked at it and put in a couple of pins instead in about 15 minutes. 4 or 5 years later and all still ok. I think the charge was about 500bt. 

 

My Canadian dentist said he would have done a root canal. It's all in the Benjamins baby.

 

Oh, and about the type of crown, it depends on the location in your mouth. Front teeth are typically e-max and rear teeth are zircon. Be aware the zircon crowns are very strong and will destroy a normal tooth if it is in contact. I tend to also crown the opposing tooth with zirconia if there's contact. Last time the costs with my dentist was 9k for the zirconia and 8k for the e-max, all in.

Apparently not, there are a few types, some with gold in them and prices vary. I was told so by my dentist when i visited with  new crown and told me it was an unnecessarily expensive one.

Might be plastic for that price ?

Keep in mind the 'pearl before swine' consideration before spending big GG! 

Also says in the email I need to go 3 times in 7-10 days ....and that's apparently just for the root canal surgery 😮

Then the crown another 3 times apparently 

I bet it works out far more than the 25-30k they quote though 😀

It all depends on the dentist. The dentist that sent you the email says 5k for prep plus the crown cost. Go see Dr Warin. Get an evaluation, maybe as a walk-in, and he'll advise the proper treatments and set up the required appointments.

I don't know if things changed but he was a tough guy to get an appointment with some years back. 

Does anyone have any experience with going to a government hospital (such as Queen Sirikit near the Pattaya Airport) for a crown. I know that for general medical things, prices are much lower but I'm wondering if I could save money when I get a bridge replaced at some point. The bridge is 3 crowns so can be quite pricey.

10k crown 6k root canal, 3 visits required

In March 2020 i had a root canal and crown fitted on a tooth at the back of my mouth, cost 16,100 in total. I think that's a better option than extraction. I think it took 3 visits. Now maybe 20,000?

That depends on a dentist and their skills. Had a crown done in Bkk 15 years ago and it is still going strong.

Yes, and there's a reason for that. Go to a bad dentist and get your appointment for tomorrow.

 

I think if he walked in he could probably get a 5 minute evaluation relatively quickly, like within an hour. My appointment for 3 crowns (about 1 hour) was about 3 weeks out from the evaluation.

You mean get implants instead of crowns?, but that's 100k a piece?

Can confirm. Had five gold crowns fitted in 1976. So far, only one has given any trouble. It developed a root infection. Option was either root canal and another crown or extraction. Dentist advised that as it had already been worked upon extraction might be the best bet. That's what I went with.

He means what the crown is made from: ceramic, ziconia, porcelin, gold or a combination

Same here. I had a bridge, 3 crowns, going on 30 years now. Well worn, but still there.

My crown ( front tooth ) fell out yesterday, went in had it re cemented but probably drop out again, was quoted 14,000 for a new crown and probably drill a couple millimetres more for a longer crown pin. Hopefully the re-cement will last awhile....

I had about 10 crowns done when I first arrived in Thailand and have since lost every one of those crowned teeth due to decay getting under the crown and not being aware until it was too late. If I could go back I would have had implants no matter the cost.

I don't think Siriikit does crowns, only fillings and cleaning I guess. Very small dept.

 

Not sure about other gov't hsps around Pattaya.

Go big or go home. Have 'em all pulled out and get the complete set of dentures. Thereafter Polident's all you need.

I had two root canal works done on different teeth and different years.

First was extraction without crown as it was hidden, about 5,000.

Second with crown, about 12,000.

any idea what today's est. cost is for complete dentures (upper & lower).

(Mine are 45 years old and need replacement)
