It's pretty clear at this point.  To them high quality = Asian.  They, the people in charge, don't like to see white faces tainting the scenery.  Been listening to this talk from the people in charge for decades.  Now that Taksin is back brace yourself for more racism and nationalism.  He is the original farang hater.

TAT keep promoting Thailand wants more tourism ,then Whinging there are far too many tourists.

What they need to do is urgently upgrade the infrastructure e.g sewerage treatment, immigration security checking etc.

Then the real saviour, open arms for the Russian invasion, not Ukraine but the draft dodgers that was the final blessing for Thailand, helping those numbers rise like a phoenix out of the ashes after China stopped coming in huge numbers.

Like Maya beach, Thailand doesn't understand sustainability.. almost destroyed by incompetence and greed.

Thailands MO fly them in, fleece them for all their worth and ship them out, make way for the next inbound greenhorns.

Never a lesson learnt because they are blinded by sheer greed.

Thailand opened the doors too wide obviously. Now they realised that money is not all. Once the environment is destroyed nobody would like to visit Thailand, Phuket in particular.🙏

 

Venice has just put on a 5 euro tourist tax.I expect TAT has seen this and will try to cash in somehow.A Pattaya tax perhaps? More money to siphon off.

So the next time some you tuber or oily real estate agent tells you that it's only a "10 minute baht bus ride" from Jomtien to Pattaya take it with a shaker of salt.  Getting around, even on a scooter, has become very difficult from mid afternoon on.

I've lived in Phuket for 20 years now, things have changed here and not for the good, bus loads of chiness tourists blocking the roads, Russian breaking all the laws drink driving and killing people, working illegally doing what ever they want the men all think there're gangsters and the women want to be Americans. We have a huge water shortage at the moment and no real rains forecast, overcrowded roads and stupid people driving like complete aholes, drag racing on the roads at night, this government is a complete joke.

 yes indeed. Because venice, phuket, and pats have so many other things in common. 

To attract quality tourists ... you need to be an appealing destination. Phuket is simply an overcrowded concrete island with very little going for it to offer the wealthy. It is simply the Blackpool of Asia ... kiss me quick hats, sex on the beach and generally bad tolerated behaviour. Quality goes elsewhere.

Amsterdam just put a halt to the building of any more large hotels in an effort to curb mass tourism. Thailand charging 300 baht tourist fee isn't going to stop anyone but will get more local pigs to the trough.

Spot on... TAT went for sheer numbers to make recovery look good... quality won't come to a sex city

If they finished all of the roadwork that they have started all over the city at the same time they wouldn’t have all of this horrible traffic. They don’t use their brains when they start doing this stuff or realize how bad it makes getting from A to B. Why they don’t work on the roads at night is beyond me. Believe me, once people keep getting stuck in all of this traffic with no way around it they will stop coming. Then they will start complaining about not having enough tourists. 

Wait a minute! First, The Thai Government want to increase the number of Tourists to come to Thailand to at least the pre pandemic 2019 levels and now, Thailand Tourism Office is concerned with too many tourists in Phuket and Pattaya?? What gives?? Tourism bring the needed revenues and that’s great for the Thai Economy! Careful and Smart Planning is the answer! It will take time and everything is gonna be ok!

I've been living in Chanthaburi a few years now. I just came to Pattaya to see friends, and GODDAM the traffic is horrendous!!! I doubt I could ever move back now.

Most of the tourists in Pattaya are Thai from Bangkok. As for traffic congestion most foreign tourists don't drive.

Pattaya mostly has quality tourists by thai definition (spending) , but many non quality retirees 

 

Pattaya tourists, those one week millionaires, usually spend a lot on hookers and booze every day, thus qualify as quality ones!
