Drunk Driver Kills Traffic Policeman at Bangkok Charity Event

In a tragic turn of events, a traffic policeman on duty was killed by a drunk taxi driver while controlling traffic at a charity run in Bangkok. Deputy Inspector Assada Jumniansee was hit by a taxi on Phaholyothin Road, in the Anusawari sub-district of Bang Khen district, during the event organised by a well-known university.

The intoxicated taxi driver’s blood alcohol level was shockingly high, at 287 milligrams percent. The accident, involving a green and yellow taxi with licence plate 1มค67, was so forceful that Assada was thrown into the air, leading to serious injuries which eventually proved fatal.

Assada was rushed to Bhumibol Adulyadej Hospital in critical condition, but despite the medical team's best efforts, he could not be saved. Confirming the tragic news of his passing, Assada's wife disclosed that he had succumbed to extremely low blood pressure.

Following this incident, Police Major General Anant Worrasat, chief of the Bang Khen Police Station, ordered a comprehensive review of entitlements and benefits for government officials.

He assured full assistance for Assada’s family, promising that they would be granted all their rights, including help with funeral arrangements and processing related welfare rights.

In a related case, an executive from a top-tier global company faces legal action after being apprehended for drunk driving and assaulting a police officer at a checkpoint in Bangkok.

Murder with a vehicle. This guy should get at least 25 years in a jail, if not a death sentence. IMO.

Nice to know that when you get into a taxi in Bangkok the driver might be as high as a kite and ready to kill at any moment.

Probably the one's in their condo 167 hours in a week and the one hour they come out they wouldn't say say boo to a goose. Stay low.

Succumbed to extremely low blood pressure ? Nothing to do with the injuries he sustained? Road traffic control,Probably the most dangerous job for a police officer in Thailand. RIP.

That's probably why they are all avoiding to do this job!

Or heart so damaged by impact that threw him into the air that it could not provide normal blood pressure to the body?

Thai taxi driver at work.... safety last.

.287? That's close to a coma for the average person unless, that is a regular amount. At .4 for most people they would be dead. I reckon this was probably close to his normal BA, just scary. Just terrible for the officer's family. Maybe the low pressure was due to lack of blood from his injuries? Really doesn't matter as the injuries proved fatal.

They make it more dangerous themselves using their bodies to jump in front of people not stopping. I have seen them do this countless times and am very surprised more police are not killed this way.

Sad story .

So much to tell about drunk driving ... Alcohol is dangerous ...

Imagine the killer would have been a farang ...

Lucky that was not the case .

Very likely he will get a tough sentence. Unlike Mr Red Bull

My guess is most long-term residents have got into a taxi where the driver is blitzed on alcohol. Do they get very bored with the job? Or what?

Internal bleeding especially from a ruptured spleen which is very dangerous, not enough blood therefore low blood pressure. He probably was just left and not scheduled for emergency surgery to remove the spleen

If that had been the case this thread would have reached 20 pages of outrage already

Very sad. Of course root cause is poor policing encouraging law breaking drivers.

"The accident, involving a green and yellow taxi with licence plate 1มค67".......... How is this an "Accident"? An accident implies no one is at fault 🤔

So are drugs.

Luckily for many, the RTP do not usually test for drugs. They just assume alcohol or 'mental issues'.

In many counties in the UK, drug driving is more common than drunk driving. We will never know here.

There's no excuse for drunk driving, make a tough example of this poor alleged person.30 years in jail and banned from driving any vehicle for life.

Don't forget a machete. A taxi driver killed an American with one in an argument over 100 baht.

Let us remember  Wichien Klanprasert,💔 a police officer on his motorcycle responding to a robbery call when HiSo (Low-Life)Vorayuth "Boss" Yoovidhya dragged the officer's body for around 100 meters and then lied and fled the country -literally getting away with murder.

The problem is that there is no real deterrent for DUI , it's 3 DUI and run a red light

before you get enough points to lose your license  (if you have one ) ,DUI needs

to be a custodial sentence ,first time , do it again longer sentence, and so on.

there has to be a proper deterrent or nothing will change.....

As sad as this case is, it is a relief for us Farang that every now and then something is reported about Thais as criminals.

Much of the Thai media focuses on reports of farang engaging in significant misconduct. As a percentage of the number of farangs in Thailand, these are significantly fewer cases than those committed by Thais.

One should maintain the relationship in the Thai media and not constantly bash Farangs.

It's OK to report, but without permanent bashing!

I think an accident is an unintentional incident.

Your definition would seem to infer there aren't many accidents, as in most cases, there IS somebody at fault.

Completely off-topic, (and RIP to the policeman); when I took my motorcycle test in the UK about 100 years ago, it was policy for the test examiner to hide behind a tree and then jump out in front of you to check your reflexes and emergency breaking.  Dangerous at the best of times, but I took my test in winter and on an icy road.  When the examiner jumped out from behind the tree, my heart was in my mouth  (and no doubt him likewise), as a tried to stop without falling off on the icy road.

Happily I passed the test and was able to visit the examiner in hospital as he recovered from having an 18 inch front wheel removed from his jacksie..... 🙂
