The car looks like no BYD full EV I know, certainly nothing being imported to Thailand, what model is it?

Do you have the same story published by a reputable source?

Did you read it? There was a reference to electric motorbikes might possibly have been responsible. We are discussing Electric Cars here. I have never said cheap electric bikes, scooters, skateboards etc are safe.

Oh my God, here we go again.

1. That is not a BYD.

2. That is not an EV.

3. It is not real.
4. It is a stunt from a movie set.

5. Did you not think it odd that people were filming before it happened and didn't flinch once?

The mind boggles about how gullible people are who will swallow anything no matter how ridiculous - as long as it fuels their anti Chinese / anti EV viewpoint.

And that awful YouTuber posts it as fact that this was an EV vehicle that exploded while charging. And morons lap it up without question. It is very very sad.

Now you can factor in out of all the people in Thailand that have EV's how many charge solely by solar

I am on the grid, but just bought an MG4 and am upgrading my solar system from 5 to 10 Kw so I can run my home charging station without drawing from the grid during peak PV generation hours.

+1 EV owner powering his car predominantly by solar.

it's not really a fair comparison, govt subsidies being reduced in the uk but not in thailand. public charging in the uk can be up to 10 times more expensive than charging at home, plus 20% sales tax in public places against 5% at home.

the EV cheap motoring option is pretty much over in the uk, i suspect the ev market in thailand is more in its infancy and will follow a similar trend when govt subsidies reduce and profiteering by public charging stations kicks in.

That vehicle exploding was a movie stunt scene.  Sterzel (sepentza) has no credibility and has had many of his facts overturned as fake.  Don't believe YouTube!

There was no fire, that was an air conditioning system leak due to a short circuit, what you could see was white fumes, at no point did anything catch fire and it happened in the part of the car shared with ordinary ICE vehicles.

China Obsever is not anti China it's anti CCP and why would Chinese imports be any different from the cars in China. Are they made to a different level for the export market? Are you saying the footage in this YT video is fake? Plenty of other articles and videos that show very similar things. As for your very confident statement "I am also on several Thai BYD groups and can confirm there has not been one single BYD explosion or significant fire here." @tomazbodner has shown otherwise. This happened when charging so there was obviously a quality issue.

What about this story....

"Bangkok’s governor has ordered an urgent review of all premises in the capital storing EV vehicles and batteries after a serious fire on Wednesday night gutted a building in the Chatuchak area of the city."

https://www.thaiexaminer.com/thai-news-foreigners/2023/09/09/ev-vehicle-concerns-after-bangkok-fire-bangkok-governor-chadchart/

Yes, the footage in that video is fake.

The statistics are clear, EV's are between 13 and 140 times less likely to catch fire than an ICE.

I’m guessing from your comment that you don’t own an EV. Majority of EV owners charge at home, at very cheap rates, whether here ,or in the UK. I have done 9,000 kms in my Dolphin in the 5-6 months since I bought it. I’m yet to charge at a public CS. Charging at home for most people should cost around Thb 300-350 for a range of about 400-440 km. Even if a certain amount is done at public CS, this is still significantly cheaper than the equivalent 600-800 baht for an ICEV.

Even in the UK, public charging is getting cheaper as Tesla opens up more and more of their stations to non-Tesla owners. Other CPO’s will have to reduce their prices gradually. So EV motoring even in the UK will continue to be cheaper than petrol.

Thanks @Pib  this is an excellent short and sweet summary.

I am surprised nobody has commented. Maybe they are stunned into silence 🤐

I own a BYD Seal Performance and for the money it’s the best car I’ve ever driven.

It only means that the Thais (mostly naive people not interested in reading books and learning from the past) are more susceptible to the tech hype than the Europeans (mostly interested in history and greedy). Just give them some more time.

So your theory is that Thais are naive, uneducated and susceptible to tech hype.

My theory is that EVs are cheaper here in Thailand than in Europe so represent better value for money.

I think we know why no-one has replied, right @transam?

I read that the reason the EV sales are down so much in the EU and US is that the people who are going to buy an EV have already done so, and whatever sales are left are the stragglers to the EV market or the first owners getting new cars.

They won't be selling as much as when they first came out unless something totally different happens IE; 1000 mile battery, price drop, etc.

Asia still has alot of customers left, but eventually the same thing will happen.

I think the ORA is a really good looking vehicle, and the quality isn't bad for the price point.

Pish & Tosh

Hydrogen cars in any format are 4 or 5 times more expensive per kilometer than EV’s.

EV’s will always be the premium product.

Can’t get your brain around EVs or the fact that H2 is never going to be the future.

Can’t construct an argument because you fail to support it with any evidence

Hey, to each their own. If you want a HYSE ICE and can afford it, go buy one. Don’t come here asking where to fill it up though.

liddeljohn has watched too many Toyota-sponsored hydrogen powered propaganda videos.    But if liddeljohn does buy a HYSE vehicle he needs to live close to "the one and only hydrogen filling station in Thailand"...in the Chonburi area....a prototype station setup by PTT and Toyota in late 2022.  Don't know the pricing of the hydrogen fuel but I'm sure it's HIGH!
