Thai blogger gets in trouble for playing a parasite prank

A Thai food blogger has recently come under fire for posting a video on his Facebook page where he appeared to be consuming a parasite. The man admitted concocting the whole scenario as a ploy to gain popularity online.

 

The man, not identified by name, hosts a Facebook page named เป๊กก่อนแดก (Peggondag), boasting over 20,000 followers. In the controversial video, he was seen indulging in raw meat and offal. Typical for Thai culture, especially in the Isaan provinces, where eating raw food is a widespread practice, he is witnessed eating raw beef, liver, tripe, and intestines dipped in spicy sauce along with various veggies.

 

What truly alarmed his audience was when he presented a soft stringlike portion taken from the intestine as a parasite and proceeded to eat it. The video triggered a flood of negative comments as viewers expressed concerns over his health and disregard for medical advice on the risks of parasites in raw meat.

 

Further, the controversy saw some commenters stereotyping Isaan locals negatively which stirred resentment among the people of the Isaan provinces. They sternly disagreed, claiming that not everyone from Isaan enjoys eating raw food.

 

Amid the backlash, the blogger confessed that he had misidentified a soft intestinal tendon as a parasite to draw attention. He expressed regret for creating a stir in the online community.

 

Despite the incident, the blogger continues to post videos of him eating raw food, expressing gratitude to his followers. He even asserts to have gained more followers in the aftermath of the incident.

I have to admit my gf also looks at videos with people eating something. There seem to be many like that in Thailand.

I asked her but she couldn't explain to me the attraction of seeing other people eating.

Many types of meat can you eat raw if fresh enough, Like beef. Many types of seafood also, but not Chicken or Pork.
