North Koreans training in Russia are now in combat zone: Ukraine Defense Intelligence

"Ukrainian spies spotted the troops, who they said were trained at one of five military sites in east Russia, in Russia’s Kursk region."

So the North Korean armed tourists are in Kursk region and they have Russian visa in passports. But there are also other tourists, some of them are native English speakers, who don't have valid Russian visa. And who do you think is right here and who is wrong?

They wanted to send troops, now they say they wanted to send weapons. What next?

As an expat in Thailand I recently watched a Thai TV show with ugly people wanting to become normal. The show runners send the winner to South Korea for plastic surgery and they become beautiful. In Thailand, SK has an image of plastic surgery and transplantology paradise. So it is easy to predict what they will really send to help Ukrainian soldiers. I would bet that they will send special bulletproof vests that protect not the entire body from bullets, but only the most expensive organs - the liver and kidneys.

IMO the Nth Korean troops have been sent to Ukraine for 'experience'.  Nothing beats training troops in a real combat situation and that is mainly why they are participating.  China cannot do the same because they have strategic issues with USA, but they probably will if USA deploys their troops to Ukraine.  Likewise, most European countries have not sent their troops into Ukraine (only 'advisers') because they fear this could lead to an escalation and their own countries could be under attack.

I’m sure this is case and that countries like China and India has been advised accordingly. 3,000 - 12,000 soldiers is an insignificant number of troops and if you believe Ukraine’s claim of over 1,000 casualties a day, this will make no difference and can hardly be classified a serious escalation.

So the question is why is the west playing this up? To try and justify NATO expansion into Asia? To try and justify sending troops (maybe South Korean as they aren’t part of NATO) into Ukraine to hold off the inevitable collapse for a bit longer?

A fascinating, and terrifying, video narrated by Stephen Fry.  Ignore the click bait title if you will, though it makes a point,  The first half will no doubt be argued against by the usual suspects, but the second half is chilling, as it discusses advances in AI controlled weapons, particularly drones.

It makes the point that, a human controlling a drone can make humane decisions based on what they see.  For example, this still from the 7:22 mark of the video shows a Russian soldier pleading for mercy, as seen by a Ukrainian drone operator.  The drone drops water for him, along with a map showing his location. (Note too, he doesn't appear to be of Slavic origin. Putin is too smart to conscript citizens from Moscow and St Petersburg).

Increasingly, though - mainly due to Russian jamming, drones are being controlled by AI.  The human operator flies them near the target and the AI takes over.  If the signal to the human operator is blocked, then the drone will continue to its mission.  For an attack on a weapons or oil facility it will be "fed" with a photo of the target, but for attacks on soldiers it is trained to attack Russian uniforms.  No humane decision possible, just attack and death.  From the 7:53 mark:

And what happens when the Russians counter this by changing, or removing, their uniforms? How long till these drones are programmed to attack anything human?

The US and China have started making AI controlled drones - ground and sea based as well as aerial, in massive numbers, with China currently having the advantage.  Swarms of drones, attacking from multiple angles at once, overwhelm defenses and leave nobody alive. Clips of their testing are included in the video.

I've often thought that, just as Vietnam is said to be the first "television war", so Ukraine can claim to be the first "YouTube war".  Sadly, it may also be a more lethal first for all of us.  The first AI war.

I don't know what could have been done, the west didn't do anything when Russia did alliances with China and Iran, Venezuela and some African countries

Opinion - The West did nothing to stop North Korea’s alliance with Russia, and there will be consequences
