A man has turned himself in to the authorities after he had a shootout with a city worker in Sai Ma municipality. The man, after releasing shots at a municipal employee who was in his car, has four charges against him and has been granted bail by the police.

The victim of this shooting incident, Saranyut, a 42-year-old worker from Sai Ma municipality, reported to the police yesterday that he was shot while driving his official car.

The incident happened at about 8:45 am on Soi Bang Rak Noi 17, in the Bang Rak Noi sub-district, Mueng district, Nonthaburi province. The car was hit several times with bullets which caused the glass to shatter and injure Saranyut.

The alleged shooter, Nikhom, 34, surrendered to the police today at Bang Si Mueng Police Station, accompanied by his wife, parents and his 9mm gun that was allegedly used during the shootout.

Nikhom's wife, identified as Dia, stated that she attempted to prevent the altercation and advised both parties to apologize and separate. She noted that Nikhom does not usually carry a gun. He intended to leave it at his father's house on that day because no one is usually at their house during weekdays due to work.

Dia explained that she ran into the victim, with whom her husband had an earlier disagreement, at Wat Sai Ma temple. She alleged that after the encounter, the person followed them and tried to provoke her husband.

Police Colonel Somchai, the head of Bang Si Mueng Police Station, stated that they were informed about the suspect's surrender yesterday. After preliminary investigations, the police found that both parties had prior disagreements and a car chase preceded the shooting.

He added that the suspect fired the first shot, perhaps thinking he was about to be attacked. An arrest warrant was issued yesterday, May 19, and four charges were filed against the suspect.

The police are currently investigating the suspect's house for more evidence. After confessing to the charges, the suspect was handed to investigators. His family used a land title deed to request for bail, which was not opposed by the police as he surrendered willingly.

The charges against the suspect include illegal public possession of a firearm, discharging a firearm in public without a valid reason, possession of an unlicensed firearm, and attempted murder. The next step is for the police to gather more evidence and prepare to prosecute the case according to the law.
