Thanks to all those who have taken the time to reply. All useful to know.

It’s not a ‘ life or death’ situation that I must have one. I got the idea from this forum.

Anyway, from one of the replies it would appear that the Amphur that I live in, is the problem in that someone else has been waiting for “ years”!  I live in Mae Rim, Chiang Mai Province.

Its possible that they 'don't know' how to process you...      Its a fair bit of paperwork for them, and some officers at some amphur do no like doing the work... and because its fee, they see no benefit to themselves anyway...

keep persevering if you want - they'll have to get round to it in the end.

That's actually the most common straw man

argument used by our rabid anti-yellow book, anti-pink card zealots. No one has ever said that it is necessary. Many of us do find it convenient at times, however.

Well, check w/ the office yourself. Maybe you have better manners and hygiene.

Mae Rim Amphur isn't that keen on farangs, unless you know someday powerful. The ironic part is, Amphurs are required by law to keep records of all foreigners in the Amphur but don't because they wont issue them yellow tabien bahns.

Yes, some people are here just to post negative comments on all threads they can find. Seems to be they have their Computer as Friend only and nothing else to do.

These days it's fairly standard to request an Embassy certified copy of your Passport data page, officially translated into Thai, then legalised by the Consular section of the MFA before they will process your application.

That's exactly the point at which I deemed it a waste of effort !

Really...? Is that the best you can do?

No, I don't wear flip-flops and tank tops to immigration, but many do, I have seen them.....🤗

Mine was (Pattaya) for motorcycle license renewal.

W/ bank book I've used it to withdraw money over the counter at my branch of Bangkok Bank. Another institution: the post office.

Well then you are obviously doing something I am not. Good on you!
