Domestic ATM fee without notice

Recommended Posts

I was at Krabi airport today and used a Krung Thai Bank ATM with my Kasikorn (Krabi branch) debit card. I pulled out 900 THB and then, to my surprise, was charged a 20 Baht fee.

Now I know that if you use ATM's out of province there is often a service fee. But as far as I can remember you will always be notified before the transaction. That was not the case here. They happily added it after the transaction.

The 20 Baht is nothing of course, but I was asking myself if this is actually legal, charging a fee without having the option to not complete the transaction/being notified first?

It made it all extra ridiculous seeing the huge sticker on the lower part of the machine 😁

Of course, because I didn't have anything better to do, I called Krung Thai customer care. As you might expect that conversation went nowhere 😁

Have you done that multiple times this calendar month?

Usually you can withdraw four times at another bank's ATM per calendar month.

Part of the terms and conditions you agreed to, so no notice required mid-/pre-transaction.

This applies to a Krung Thai customer. But then T&C of Kasikorn Bank would probably say about the same thing and I would have to be aware of those, I get it. Still, when I use machines from other bankss at any 7/11 around town, I never get charged.

I'm pretty sure I have been notified about fees with a local card when out of province too

Isn't that charge because you used a Kasikorn card in a Krung Thai Bank ATM?

I use machines from various banks around town and never get charged.

I don't think I did, as it's only beginning of June and I don't get cash often.

On Nov 24 used my debit card a newish one with SCB and used it 3 times in a GSB ATM and yes they give a fee charge of 10 Baht and a hidden additional one which also came off the balance and was only using it as SCB sometimes refuse my debit card and something to do with a chip or otherwise,
However, did not want to risk my card in 2 SCBs in my local village and the branch shut down a few years ago and had to go in to Kanchanaburi 7 times before I got my new debit card and banks well all over the world and they forget they got bailed out but still giving bonuses and salary increases to their staff!!!
