An 88-year-old man from Thailand, Boonma Do-kaew, tragically lost his life yesterday when a tree branch fell on his head. The incident happened in the northern province of Chiang Mai, in the Mae On district, while he was seated under a tree at On Klang Temple.

The local police from Mae On Police Station were informed of Boonma's death by the Mae On Hospital on June 24. The officers visited the hospital to assess the cause of death and to interview eyewitnesses.

According to the police, Boonma, who was wheelchair-bound, had a habit of visiting On Klang Temple most days. On the tragic day, he had moved his wheelchair under a bodhi tree for some shade. Without warning, a large branch fell on his head, causing him to lose consciousness.

Emergency services from the On Klang Rescue Foundation were called to the scene. They attempted CPR on Boonma before rushing him to the Mae On Hospital. Alas, he didn't survive his injuries.

After the incident, it emerged that Boonma’s family could not afford the burial expenses. In response to this, the monks at the temple and generous locals pooled funds and donated towards a one-day funeral and cremation for Boonma.
