nice country, double price or 10x for national parks,  police that cannot be bothered, illegal to post honest reviews about anything, ...   thai land... but still local maffia make up their own rules and prices...

It’s how thailand works…w/o enforcement some Thais are more crooked than others…some just prey on naive tourists pushing the envelope to the highest fare and they find suckers 

 

others are more reasonable in their fares but it’s a crap shoot and one is lucky or unlucky on whom they meet

He would have been forced to pay it if he didn’t have relatives in the area who could pick him up. Not every tourist has local contacts to help them avoid being fleeced.

I don’t think it’s a one off taxi driver. I bet this is the prevailing rip off price by all drivers. It’s a mafia, not just individual guys. In their own way, they are pretty organized.

For the last couple of years I've been getting a shared mini bus from Krabi Airport to Ao-nang 150 baht which for me is reasonable, o.k you have to wait for them to get enough customers, but it's worth the wait.......

There's also the option of getting a Taxi which is around 500 baht.....

Tour operators at airport when you come through arrivals have signs with costs for various trips including to Krabi Town.
