A Thai woman narrowly escaped being sexually assaulted by a drug addict in a petrol station bathroom in the Isaan province of Khon Kaen. The suspect was identified after he was arrested for drug use by another police team.

The story was shared on social media platforms to warn others, especially women, who use public bathrooms at petrol stations and other places. According to the post, the incident took place at about 10pm on June 30 at a petrol station near Ratchaphruek Hospital on the Friendship Highway in Khon Kaen.

The victim was using the toilet when the man, later identified as 31 year old Kanha, climbed into her toilet cubicle from another cubicle. Kanha threatened the victim with a Stanley knife. He grabbed the woman’s arm and ordered her to keep quiet.

Kanha then took off his trousers and attempted to sexually assault the woman. The woman managed to wrench her arm free from Kanha and scream for help. The victim suffered an injury to her arm as she escaped from the suspect.

Kanha reportedly abandoned the knife in the bathroom and fled the scene on his white and blue Yamaha Fino motorcycle.

The woman filed a complaint with Mueang Khon Kaen Police Station, prompting officers to review security cameras at the scene. Kanha was clearly seen in the footage as the petrol station had more than 10 cameras installed.

Arrested after massage

Kanha was seen parking his motorcycle at the petrol station, going to a convenience store, and then entering the bathroom where the incident took place.

While Mueang Khon Kaen Police officers were working to identify the suspect, officers received a report from Ban Ped Police Station yesterday that they had just arrested the drug-addicted suspect named Kanha and suspected that he was also wanted for the attempted sexual assault.

Kanha was arrested by Ban Ped Police Station officers after a worker at a massage shop reported to police that Kanha, who came for a two-hour massage, looked like a drug addict. Officers rushed to arrest Kanha and tested him for drugs. The test result confirmed that he had methamphetamine, also known as Yaba, in his system.

Mueang Khon Kaen Police officers checked Kanha’s identity and confirmed that he was the suspect in this case. Officers then took Kanha to the scene of the incident for a reenactment.

Kanha confessed that he had taken four tablets of Yaba before committing the crime. Officers allowed Kanha to return home to confess everything to his wife, who was shocked by her husband’s behaviour.

The legal charges issued against Kanha have not yet been made public.
