Shopee refund - can a refund be credit or coins or only bank account deposit

Featured Replies

I just received a couple of mozzie zappers from Shopee and they don't zap at all.  I may request a refund,  however that depends as I'm not keen to use my bank account with Shopee.

Can refund be coins or credit ?

Is it safe with Shopee having my Bank account details   ?

So tired of getting stuff that just doesn't work or is broken   ....

Shopee refunds can typically be processed in several ways, depending on the original payment method and the specific circumstances of the refund. Here are the common refund methods Shopee uses:

    1.    Original Payment Method: If you paid through a credit or debit card, the refund is usually credited back to the same card.

    2.    ShopeePay: If you used ShopeePay for the purchase, the refund might be credited back to your ShopeePay wallet.

    3.    Bank Transfer: For payments made via bank transfer or if specifically requested, the refund can be deposited into your bank account.

    4.    Shopee Coins: In some cases, refunds can be given in the form of Shopee Coins, which can be used for future purchases on the platform.

In my case, all it's showing is my bank account as the refund method,   and the submit button.

Is using the Bank account safe ?    I just don't trust anyone, especially shopee & lazada.

I can't really say. I think I've given my bank account number to these sites before, and I don't worry about it too much, but your question opens up a whole different discussion for me about securing Thai bank accounts in general.

For one, I think the best way to keep your bank account secure is to worry less about who has the account number on file and simply protect the account using your online banking app where you can quickly specify daily limits on outgoing withdrawals and outgoing bank transfers. This will prevent fraudsters from being able to drain your bank account without your permission even if they obtain your account number.

The other thing I do is I use multiple bank accounts in Thailand for added security. One account has the majority of my money in it, which I have fully locked temporarily in the banking app to prevent any transfers from occurring on the account at all and I have no debit card on this account either. Then I have a second bank account where I keep just enough money for monthly living expenses. The second account is not fully locked down, because I need to use it daily, but I still have set daily withdrawal limits on the account that I can also change whenever needed. However, given the fact that I keep a fairly low balance in the second account, the low balance protects me even further if I give out the bank account number for banking transactions because there isn't much in the account that can be lost anyway. I also have a debit card on the second account, which has separate daily limits set on withdrawals and purchase transactions for the card. So I am not really worried if my debit card gets lost or compromised. Most I could lose would be a couple thousand Baht.

In general though, I pay for everything online with sites like Lazada and Shopee using a digital debit card from a Fintech app. What I do is that I keep the card always locked in the app and then I only temporarily unlock it in the app when I want to make an online purchase. As soon as the online purchase is made then I lock the card again. This way, I don't worry about my card information being stored in the systems of these online vendors because the card is always locked. Since I can also create as many digital debit cards as I want within the app, every a few months I cancel the digital card and create a new one just for added security.

I know all of this might sound a bit heavy duty on security, but I feel in the digital world we live in now that you've gotta be extra cautious and vigilant to prevent fraud.

It's depending of you payment method. If yoy have paid by credit card your refund will automatically be transferred to the bank account connected to the credit card, circa one week after credit. If you have paid by other means, you'll need to apply for a bank transfer, where you might be asked for uploading copy of your passport and name page of your bank book.

To my knowledge, foreigners cannot use "coins".

Are you referring to this platform?

You could be right. I've never tried on Shopee. I use coins all the time on Lazada though.

Also, I can't use the Lazada wallet because I am not willing to upload a photo of myself holding my passport page open. But I'm fine with that. Don't need the wallet either.

well,  one mozzie zapper finally worked with my wire test but then I accidently touched the LED and the electric kill bars and it exploded the power wire inside the unit with a bang "  and my circuit breaker went off.

so that one is fried ....  I don't think the other one works,  so I'll just throw it in the trash like all the other Shopee gear I buy.

No refund required,  I destroyed 1 unit, so not worth claiming on the other.
