A young soldier has been arrested in relation to the murder of his girlfriend, a former housemaid, in an apartment in central Bangkok. Police are arranging with the military to transfer the suspect for a more in-depth investigation.

The case came to attention when local police responded to a call at an apartment in the city center on July 9. They found the body of 30-year-old Khemruthai in her room on the second floor.

Khemruthai, who had previously worked at the Parliament as a housemaid, was found dead on her bed with a stab wound in her chest. Early investigations suggest she had been dead for seven days.

Khemruthai’s sister, Darika, aged 29, expressed her shock upon hearing the news. Although she was aware of her sister's one-year relationship with a soldier, she claims she wasn't informed about any problems between the two.

The landlord noted that Khemruthai had started living with her boyfriend three months ago. Despite this, the landlord didn't get many opportunities to interact with the boyfriend since Khemruthai was last seen in June when she paid her rent.

Police quickly identified Khemruthai’s soldier boyfriend, 24-year-old Sunai, as the prime suspect. He was arrested in the Mae Sai district of Chiang Rai. Authorities are coordinating with military personnel for his transfer for legal proceedings.

An autopsy concluded that Khemruthai had been dead for seven to ten days, with the cause of death being a single stab wound to her torso. A knife, the suspected murder weapon, was found at the scene of the crime.

Sunai, who initially met Khemruthai on TikTok, had been active on social media shortly before the alleged incident. A recent post on his Facebook showed him in his military uniform holding a rifle. His social media persona emphasized his military role and his posts hinted to a violent mindset.

This disturbing case has raised questions about the events leading to this brutal murder. The police are still gathering evidence and conducting interviews to better understand what happened.
