I'm mid 50's and don't even really need to do it much anymore (the desire it not there). Paying some hag even makes me less inclined.

It has nothing to do with age, more likely has lot to do with your testosterone levels if you already feel like your on the last turn in your life at mid 50's. Diet plays a big role too, as well your psychical condition (overweight? etc).

I disagree entirely, I only had benefits from living here long-term in almost any bar, all over the country. It also saves me from being tried to be hassled, get the nonsense stories etc. The condition however is that I also always make sure I'm shaved, smelling good, decent dressed and do still buy them their drinks like anyone is expected to do, when going to such places.

Only thing that is a benefit of saying you are a new tourist is that, if you enjoy them screaming and talking loud, inviting their sisters over to the table etc etc is fun for the person going... Also would be pretty sure the majority of real first time tourists are paying double of what I pay for happy endings or short time fun.

Sure the girls themself, would likely say, they prefer new time tourists, when being asked about it. Of course they are; they at the end try to make as much as possible and a lot of the long timers are actually super cheap, high demanding etc, in that perspective you are for sure 100% right.

I was not talking about bars or hookers, but society in general.

I am on my last turn at mid 50's. A lot of guys pass away in their 60's-70's.

Don't worry. He'll come back with a great retort, I'm sure.

I've noticed the same lately—lots of empty seats and quieter streets. Locals say fewer tourists and changing habits are part of it. Maybe things pick up more closer to high season.

I’ve noticed the same thing lately, which is why I’ve been mixing it up and checking out scenes in other cities.  If you're into private setups with more energy, 홍대셔츠룸 https://www.xn--vk1b66io3hoxn62j.kr/ in Seoul gives off a pretty different vibe—busier and less hit-or-miss than what I’ve seen in Bangkok lately. Might be worth a trip if you’re already traveling around Asia and want something more reliable.

Hua Hin is a ghost town, never seen it so empty and  Bluport is cheap marked now, with a lot of empty space. Same goes for the beach, many good restaurants closed,

We will see in the weekend how it is,

What happened? Where is everybody?

Maybe too expensive nowadays. Haven't been downtown for years.

Hasn't Patpong been dead for years, even decades?. The Junta closed down Bangkok nightlife in 2014 when they took over from Thaksin. That's when I relocated to Pattaya where there is still a spirit of freedom & exuberance.

Bangkok nightlife got closed down in 2014 by the then new military junta.

In part it's a low season thing.

What time did you go? Because the bars close later, the business starts later these days.

Now many girls in Nana arrive just before 10pm. Don't expect much before that time.

And the business is more concentrated in a few bars. I guess part of that is the information exchange on the internet. A few years ago you asked an insider where to go. Now, I guess many people look for that information on the web and then many end up in the same few bars.

The high prices for the (lady) drinks certainly don't help.

And we, they guy who used to go a lot to the bars are getting older. We don't go as often anymore.

And it seems the younger guys look primary online for contacts.

Since 2014 Bangkok nightlife has been dead: that the year Thermaes started to close at 12 or 1am not 7am. It's also the year a new military junta took over.

Patpong was a blast in the 70s and 80s. Then came the night market which stifled the party atmosphere on Patpong 1. It has never been the same since, in my opinion.

Patpong/Silom has been dead for years for hetero folks.

Cowboy is tourist dependent.

Nana may be a bit quiet, but will pick up when I return at the end of September.

I agree about PATPONG  it was dying before Covid.  Covid just put the nail in the coffin.

It used to be that Patpong night market was the place you had to go to just to see it.  But since then, a lot of the restaurants have closed.  The ping pong shows are old school, and the girls at the bars are just girls who stand and shift from one foot to the other and are very expensive.

The other catch with Patpong is that it is so drab and run-down.

Silom now has the Thaniya meat market with all the girls lookingfor the Japanese guy

or for entertainment, it has the Silom 4 gay drag bars, which can be entertaining if you are not looking for female company.

I'm not sure when the OP went to NANA, but it is still busy with most of the action in the plaza.

It was dying in 2003, 2005, 2007, 2013, 2016, 17, 18 ,,,,

It is low season, and for some reason, people forget

No it has nothing to do with low or high season.  Patpong, as it was before COVID, is long gone.  I have been going there for 15 years and can tell you that a lot of the places that made it and stalls are gone.

Considering my post was from July of last year that should have given you a clue.

I was last there in March, 2025 and it was packed.

It feels like Bangkok redlight areas like Patpong, Cowboy and Nana are devoid of customers. Especially Patpong. The night market was dead and hardly anybody there tonight. Is it just me? I think if I went into a go-go I would be the only one there.

Plenty of tourists (on lower Sukhumvit); backpackers, couples, Indians, Arabs, Africans... Not the typical redlight crowd. Also, the freelancers hanging around between Nana and Asoke look scary...

Pretty accurate for Bangkok gogo bars. Typical night out for some of my friends would be 9-10pm at a gogo bar, around midnight move to a nightclub, and then keep bouncing to a different club when current one closes. For Pattaya completely different: gogo bar around 11pm-midnight, stay until they close at 3am, then go to a nightclub. Personally I skip the gogos and just go straight to the clubs. Saves money, liver percentage, and sanity as an introvert self-medicating to be social. :cheesy:

Someone told me the Beer Garden was open again.?

Most guys want to pull themselves out of that lifestyle eventually, especially the Lincoln Tunnel stuff. It was much more dangerous, frought with risk, robbery & arrest. Also, much more adrenaline pumping. Not sure if it's still that way now.

I used to live on the Upper West Side (W100's). That was in '94-'96 though, I left in '96. I first visited Thailand in '06. I was a little too young (25-ish) to "monger" but at that age where I was interested and looking at it.

You guys used to live in NYC?  I was there in the mid 70s. The heyday of craziness. You couldn't ask for a more crazy place to be.  I lived down in the Village, back when rents were cheap.  Or maybe they just seemed cheap?  Anyway, you'd have to be there to appreciate it.

I think Patpong started to go downhill in 2001 or so when Purachai was Minister of the Interior and required things to be toned down. The Pong never recovered.
