Is there an upcoming national alcohol ban on July 20-21, 2024?  I haven't seen anything in the news about this.  If so, can someone point me to the current relevant news source?

Those are regular alcohol sales-free days, there's no need for it to be a news item every year.

There's a need to inform people on holiday from countries where the sale of alcohol isn't prohibited on religious holidays. I was completely blind-sided by it on my first visit here. It didn't however, take me long to find a bar serving "diplomatic tea" as we used to call it when I worked in India.

I guess, when no alcohol is sold, then the bars also will be closed?

Close at midnight today till midnight on Sunday, so actually it is 3 days (evenings), because many will not bother going out for only a few hours tonight

Depends where you are.

In BKK some bars will/might try to use mugs or cans of coke to serve beer in.

Age old tradition.

Why in this day & age one wonders why.

All the Thais up here think that is a reason to drink more

Indeed, and as the OP is evidently internet savvy enough to sign up on this website  and post a question like that, its safe to assume that not only is he familiar with google and how to use it , but also that he knows full well how much quicker it would be if he googled it himself rather than posting a thread about it on here.   Makes me wonder why anybody would bother, But  I'm sure they, who ever they are , have their reasons,

I noticed a recent thread concerning  the last couple of dry days, as  expected, ended up a real whinge fest. It ran to about 8 pages. Not that I'm suggesting anything

Hear, hear!  The chronic Thai-bashers love an unjustified whinge fest.
