Disturbing CCTV footage has surfaced showing a young Australian woman desperately seeking refuge in a kebab shop in Paris after allegedly being gang-raped by five men. The 25-year-old tourist was discovered disoriented and unable to speak French outside the shop on Boulevard de Clichy in Paris’ 18th arrondissement around 5 a.m. on Saturday, just a short distance from the iconic Moulin Rouge.

Reports indicate the woman was found in a stunned state, her dress backward and partially torn off, and she claimed she had been raped by five individuals. The released CCTV footage reveals the terrified woman running into the kebab shop, frantically asking the staff for help. Alarmed customers and staff gathered around her in an attempt to offer comfort when a man entered the shop. The woman gestured that this man was one of her attackers. In a brazen move, the man walked up to her and patted her on the back before a customer confronted him, prompting him to flee.

Police arrived on the scene minutes later, and the woman informed them that the men who attacked her were "of African appearance." She was subsequently taken to Bichat Hospital. The shop owner told 7News that the woman could not stop crying and her dress was damaged. Additional reports mentioned that the woman was carrying her underwear in her hand and that her phone had been stolen.

The incident, which occurred just days before the start of the Olympic Games, has significantly impacted the woman's plans. Initially intending to travel back to Australia, she will now remain in Paris to assist the police with their investigation. The Paris Prosecutor’s Office has confirmed that an investigation into the alleged gang rape is underway. "The investigation into the charge of gang rape likely to have been committed on the night of July 19 to 20 has been entrusted to the second judicial police district," the prosecutor's office stated.

In response to the incident, police have launched a major operation to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. A spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) told 7News that the Australian Embassy in Paris is "making urgent inquiries with French authorities following reports of an Australian citizen assaulted in Paris." The DFAT stands ready to provide consular assistance.

The Alliance Paris police union has assured that investigators will "do everything to quickly identify the individuals to bring them to justice," according to Le Parisien. As the investigation progresses, the international community watches closely, hoping for swift justice for the victim and increased safety measures for tourists and residents alike in the city of Paris.
