Police arrested a Thai man yesterday in the southern province of Songkhla for attempting to rape a masseuse before changing his mind and stealing her mobile phone instead because she was on her period.

The 28 year old masseuse escaped from the attempted rape and sought help from motorists on a road in the Hat Yai district of Songkhla. She then reported the crime to officers at the Tung Lung Police Station and recounted details of the incident.

The masseuse explained that the suspect, later identified as 20 year old Teeraphat, contacted her via the LINE application and hired her to provide a massage service at a resort near the scene of the incident, offering a service fee of 2,000 baht.

While travelling to the resort, Teeraphat claimed that he needed to go to the toilet and turned his motorcycle into a rubber plantation by the roadside. Teeraphat allegedly threw her to the ground and tried to rape her. She asked him to stop because she was menstruating but he ignored her.

Teeraphat eventually stopped after he stripped her and found that she was indeed on period. He then demanded valuables from her but she only had her mobile phone. She let him take her phone and fled from the scene to seek help from motorists on the road.

Police arrested Teeraphat yesterday, July 25, at his home in the Namom district of Songkhla. Teeraphat admitted to the attempted rape, saying he could not have sex with his wife because she is pregnant. He claimed that he hired her for 2,000 baht for both a massage and sex but this contradicted his attempted rape.

Teeraphat insisted that he only stole her mobile phone and did not sexually assault her because her menstruation left him with no desire.

DailyNews reported that police have issued legal charges against Teeraphat but the details of the charges were not included in the report.
