The picture shows , guard removed, handle removed. you can see the handle bolt hole in the pic. even with that crazy cutting blade, ( wrong tool for job ) if he had, the handle on and two hands on the tool. he most likely would have been fine, as any jam or kick or jam, you could hold no problem.
