"the police [stated] it didn’t constitute a legal offence as he had allowed the man to stay voluntarily". That´s just a lot of bull. he didn´t let him stay voluntarily. He let him stay and rack up a bill for an extended time. A bill he did a runner on, which is a criminal offense. 1

So why has he not been charged with a criminal offence, then? "That´s just a lot of bull. he didn´t let him stay voluntarily". No, that's just a load of bull...the owner lent him money after he couldn't pay the rent and did not ask him to leave but, instead, lent him more money and still didn't ask him to leave, that is voluntarily allowing him to stay. He did not force the owner to provide accommodation or money. 1 1

And he voluntarily allowed the man to continue living there even though he knew that he had no money, neither did he present him with his bill and tell him to settle up and leave. The man did a runner, no chance to present his bill. Well, that is your way of wording it, not the owner's, so why weren't the police able to charge him?!

Seriously??? you're just looking for an argument!!! as you're suggesting that owner said ok, no money you can stay for free, my business is renting out rooms but it's ok for you!! You know the owner was trying to help him by delaying payment until he got his ID and able to get cash. If it was someone's house that would be different, but this is a business, there are no free rooms! The owner was being a decent human being by believing the customer and trying to help him in what the owner thought was a difficult situation. Please tell me what you think the owner should've done, throw the guy out?...as for the police not doing anything, you've been in Thailand long enough to know how things work! 2 1
jacko45k Posted August 3, 2024 Posted August 3, 2024 Classic example of 'no good turn goes unpunished'......

Either by getting the room or the taxi. Now whether that is a crime in Thailand is another matter. I wonder if the police would have pressed charges if it was one of their own who had lost out in this. Why do you think it was intentional? The opportunity makes the thief.

You lend somebody money , he pays not back. Usually if you lend money, you will draw a contract, there it's stipulated what happen with the money is not paid back. Now if you do not have a contract you will learn to make one next time. you still need a police report or in the eyes of the law, it never happened he stayed in the room so the owner did a TM30, RIGHT? so he has all the info...
