Chinese Factory Manager Falls to His Death After Silo Explosion, Three Others Injured
Picture of the scene. In an industrial accident, on September 9, at a rubberwood processing plant in Chaiya District, Surat Thani, one person was killed and three others injured following an explosion in a storage silo. The incident occurred at the Promphat Rubberwood Factory in Moo 6, Mo Thai Subdistrict, where a manager tragically lost his life. The deceased has been identified as Mr. Zhang Xuanjun, 46, a Chinese national and the factory manager. The injured include Mr. Banchob Kwanprao, 51, a Thai national; Mr. Yen Chailing, 55, also from China; and Mr. Angnai, 26, a Myanmar national. All three were rushed to Surat Thani Hospital for treatment. According to initial reports, the explosion occurred inside the silo, which is used for storing rubberwood sawdust. The blast is believed to have caused the fatal fall of Mr. Zhang, throwing him from the area he was working and led to severe injuries to the others present in the area at the time. Rescue teams from Kuson Sattha Chaiya Foundation responded swiftly, and the deceased was transported to Surat Thani Hospital for autopsy. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the explosion. Early speculation suggests that a buildup of pressure or combustible gases within the silo may have triggered the blast, but official findings are pending further investigation. -- 2024-09-08 Get the ASEAN NOW daily NEWSLETTER - Click HERE to subscribe -

Trump threatens to prosecute those he claimed ‘cheated’ in election if he wins in November
To be fair, there have been a number of proven instances of individual fraud. Shockingly, though, they were votes for Trump. -

Historian Urges Thaksin To Stop Pulling Strings Behind PM
FILE - Thailand's former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, left, hugs his daughter and newly elected Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra before the royal endorsement ceremony appointing Paetongtarn as Thailand's new prime minister at Pheu Thai party headquarters in Bangkok, Thailand, Sunday, Aug. 18, 2024. (AP Photo/Sakchai Lalit) Historian Attachak Satayanuruk from Chiang Mai University has called for Thaksin Shinawatra to cease his backstage political machinations concerning his daughter and newly-appointed Prime Minister, Paetongtarn Shinawatra. The comments come in light of ongoing lawsuits filed against Thaksin and Paetongtarn, seeking to end what is being described as a shared, unconstitutional power dynamic. Attachak expressed concerns that Thaksin, the de facto Pheu Thai boss, has not only acted as the puppet master but has also brought unnecessary attention to himself in the political sphere. "It's time Thaksin stopped pulling the strings and allowed his daughter to govern independently if he truly cares about the country's future," said the historian. Thaksin has allegedly convened a confidential meeting with coalition party leaders at his residence on August 14, just hours after the Constitutional Court ousted Thailand's former Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin. These actions are seen as Thaksin's continued influence over ministerial decisions, a manoeuvre deemed illegal due to his prior indictment and permanent political disqualification. Attachak criticised Thaksin for his inability to discern trustful allies from foes, leading to an alliance with previous adversaries and forming a controversial coalition government. This coalition includes ultra-conservative factions such as the military-backed Ruam Thai Sang Chart and Palang Pracharath, reported Thai Newsroom. Critics argue that Thaksin's reconciliation with former enemies was part of a deal ensuring his safe return after 17 years of self-imposed exile and avoiding a full prison sentence. In exchange, Thaksin’s political influence has allegedly facilitated the establishment of a Pheu Thai-led government. Despite the Pheu Thai government's efforts to introduce populist policies, such as the digital wallet project, Attachak argues that voter support may waver if fundamental issues concerning justice, human rights, and social governance remain unaddressed. The historian believes that people are now focusing more on these crucial matters than mere economic relief. In summary, Attachak's plea is clear: Thaksin should step back and let his daughter govern to restore faith in democratic values and justice in Thailand. -- 2024-09-10 Get the ASEAN NOW daily NEWSLETTER - Click HERE to subscribe -

J.D.Vance declines to criticize Tucker Carlson over his friendly chat with Holocaust Denier
Darryl Cooper isn't a historian, amateur or otherwise. He's a guy who reads a lot of books and articles on specific subjects, then regurgitates a flood of details and snippets strung together in his podcasts by oddball interpretations. He's become the Kim Kardashian of historical revisionism- famous for being famous. There's nothing original or insightful in his podcasts. He simply goes down well-worn paths that have been previously trodden by more formiddable figures. Pat Buchanan wrote a book titled Churchill, Hitler, and the Unnecessary War (2008) that laid out in detail Cooper's subsequent claim that Winston Churchill was the "chief villain" of WW II. Cooper also draws heavily on the books of the (in)famous Holocaust and Hitler revisionist David Irving. Many of Cooper's notions about WWII and the Jews can be traced all the way back to the granddaddy of Holocaust deniers and Hitler white-washers, Harry Elmer Barnes in the late 1940's and onward. Very little that Cooper says about Churchill, Hitler, WWII and the Holocaust can't be found in the works of Buchanan, Irving and Barnes. Same message, different medium. -

Trump Vows to Jail Those Who Engage in "Unscrupulous Behavior" During the 2024 Election
Former President Donald Trump, who has consistently pushed the false narrative that the 2020 presidential election was stolen through widespread fraud, recently escalated his rhetoric by threatening to imprison those he perceives as engaging in dishonest activities during the 2024 election. In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump reiterated his baseless claims of election fraud, accusing Democrats of "rampant Cheating and Skullduggery." He warned that the upcoming election would be monitored with "the closest professional scrutiny" and vowed to prosecute anyone involved in what he described as "unscrupulous behavior." “The 2024 Election, where Votes have just started being cast, will be under the closest professional scrutiny and, WHEN I WIN, those people that CHEATED will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the Law, which will include long term prison sentences so that this Depravity of Justice does not happen again," Trump wrote. He extended his warning to a broad group, stating, “Please beware that this legal exposure extends to Lawyers, Political Operatives, Donors, Illegal Voters, & Corrupt Election Officials. Those involved in unscrupulous behavior will be sought out, caught, and prosecuted at levels, unfortunately, never seen before in our Country.” This threat marks one of the most comprehensive he has issued since announcing his candidacy for the 2024 presidential election, targeting not only his usual adversaries but also those indirectly involved with the election, such as donors and election workers. This move is reminiscent of his 2016 campaign, where he repeatedly threatened to jail his opponent, Hillary Clinton, though he typically refrained from attacking those on the periphery. The impact of such rhetoric has already been felt by election workers, who have faced numerous threats following the 2020 election. Among them are Ruby Freeman and her daughter, Shaye Moss, whose lives were dramatically altered after Trump and his allies falsely accused them of fraud. In the months leading up to the 2020 election, Trump began spreading unfounded warnings of election interference, which intensified after his loss and culminated in the violent attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, as his supporters attempted to prevent the certification of Joe Biden's victory. Trump has begun to make similar statements as the 2024 election approaches. During a recent speech in Wisconsin, Trump emphasized the GOP’s focus on election integrity, suggesting that if Republicans manage to prevent Democrats from cheating, his campaign efforts would be largely unnecessary. “We gotta stop the cheating. If we stop that cheating, if we don’t let them cheat, I don’t even have to campaign anymore,” he said. “We’re going to win by so much. In the meantime, too big to rig, too big to rig.” After the 2020 election, Trump and his allies filed numerous lawsuits in an attempt to overturn the results, all of which were unsuccessful. As the 2024 election draws near, some Democrats have expressed concerns that the GOP's legal maneuvers in key battleground states are intended to cast doubt on the results should Trump lose again.
