Hi,

All our XP PCs booted up without any click on user accounts (no PW etc.) but 2 days ago we installed .NET 1.1 (in order to be able to run pointasia.exe) and now all the PCs require us to click on a (the only one available) user account in order to start up. All PCs run on Admin accounts without PW

How can I get back to the easy way of starting the PCs without having to tell WIN I'm the one who wants to log in?

Have tried already all the administrative tools and user account options but nothing helps.

If you run programs which requirers .Net (which version ever) means that you setup the security higher because you install additional networking tools with it. One of this tools is the authentication module and that is reqired by .Net! If you uninstall or delete it the software which requires .Net wouldn't work and even may you'll face other problems with Windows itself.

Get a copy of Microsoft's TweakUI (PowerToys). It has an option in it to set the system to auto login. I have both .NET 1.1 and 2.0 on my office computer but the auto login works fine.

I'm not sure but may Pointasia produce some problems?! I had downloaded and installed and the system (Vista) was slowing down alot. Evev uninstalling wasn't enough but run System Restore from CD was working. Since the system is back to normal!

Thanks Tywais,

Auto login is exactly what we need, in fact we had it until I installed .NET 1.1. I will download TweakUI tomorrow and give it a try.

There's another way.

1. At a command prompt, type "control userpasswords2" and press Enter to open the Windows 2000-style User Accounts

application.

2. On the Users tab, clear the Users Must Enter A User Name And Password To Use This Computer check box and then

click OK.

3. In the Automatically Log On dialog box that appears, type the user name and password for the account you want to be

logged on each time you start your computer.

Thanks, but the problem is that you have to have a PW. We do not use PWs on our PCs.

Yep, you need a password, but once you've set up auto log on it won't ask for it, just set them all to 'password' or something.

Having blank passwords can be the cause of all sorts of weird problems with network shares too.

Thanks for all your help.

I do have FreshUI and used it to re-enable Auto log on and now all is OK even without PW and .NET 1.1 is still working.

But there is a slight slowdown in the PC performance. Could it be caused by .NET?
