Home Country Driving License Exchanged for a Thai

Recommended Posts

Hi

Any member recently exchanged their home country driving license at Mor Chit DLT for a Thai one?

Do I need an IDP if my license is in English?

Do they keep or invalidate your home driving license?

What tests does one have to do if only exchanging licenses instead of applying for a Driving License?

Thanks

You don't "exchange" anything, it usually just means you don't have to take the practical aspect of the test. The color blind and reaction test also video and theory test (afIk )

They have fiddled with their website again.

https://www.dlt.go.th/en/new-license

You have to select "EN" to be able to read the text

ORIGINAL AND PHOTO COPY OF VALID INTERNATIONAL DRIVING LICENCE (1949 AND 1968 CONVENTION) OR LOCAL DRIVING LICENCE (TRANSLATE IN TO ENGLISH OR THAI LANGUAGE AND CERTIFY BY EMBASSY IF IT IS N'T IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE)

So as written English is OK.

And if you have that, no tests required:

IF YOU ARE DISQUALIFIED IN NO.4 - FULL STEP FOLLOWING

Better say: if you have an IDP or home license in English you can skip the tests.

PASSPORT WITH VISA (ORIGINAL AND PHOTO COPY)

Be aware that "VISA" stands for  Non-O visa or one year extension.

Officially not possible to get a license with short term visa/exempt.
