Pattaya has emerged as the number one most-searched destination for a quick weekend getaway from Bangkok this August, according to Agoda. The travel site unveiled its list of top five nearby destinations, lauding Pattaya for its diverse attractions and convenience.

Located in Chonburi province, Pattaya is renowned not only for its vibrant beach parties but also for its array of activities suitable for both families and solo travellers. Visitors can enjoy the city's nightlife, unique architecture, and family-friendly spots. A highlight is Koh Larn, a serene island just a short boat ride away, ideal for sunbathing, snorkeling, and quiet retreats.

Other top contenders include Khao Yai, famed for its lush landscapes and hiking trails, perfect for nature enthusiasts. Chonburi, with its scenic beaches and local culture at Bangsaen, and Rayong, a hotspot for water sports with attractions like Laem Yai Beach, also make the list. Rounding out the top five is Kanchanaburi, known for its historical sites and stunning waterfalls such as Erawan and Huai Mae Khamin.

Each of these destinations offers a unique experience, making them perfect for a quick escape from the hustle and bustle of city life in Bangkok. Whether you're seeking adventure, relaxation, or a bit of both, these locations are within easy reach, providing the ideal getaway for weekend travellers, reported The Pattaya News.

Is it still nigh on impossible to get to Hua Hin then, it taking longer than a weekend in traffic? Or perhaps the road works are done. It is hardly surprising Pattaya comes out on top really.

How long does it really take to drive from BKK to HH?  And is the train a viable option?

I don't know, I live out in Pattaya. Been hearing of the road works seemingly forever. Sure train is an option, but not having transport when you get there etc doesn't suit everyone. It was  a slow trip on the train last time I did it.
