“Queers for Palestine” Offered $1 Million to host a gay pride parade in Gaza or West Bank
Yeah, I read it wrong. The weed they sold me this morning is so strong. Let’s not forget it was illegal in most western countries in our lifetimes also. Some would argue they never should have legalised it. HIV numbers would have been way down for example. -

Thai gov. to tax (remitted) income from abroad for tax residents starting 2024 - Part II
I opine that they will have the local banks provide a status of expat remittances. If they do have access to any other sources for ATM or credit cards then that data may come to them somehow too. I don't have the patience to read the CRS , FATCA or OECD guidelines for trading of banking info to have any idea but since my finances are so basic, I don't have to worry right now. I did read where they will want "ALL workers in Thailand" to register in their plan to broaden the tax base but that this won't come about until the new laws are passed in 2025. -

Oil Transport Ship Stranded off Koh Mai Si Due to Engine Failure, Crew of 12 Safe
Vessels of this size, and prudent mariners on any boat, will generally have parallel filter systems, with a y-valve to quickly change from one to the other in the event one side gets clogged. This allows continuous running, and ability to change the clogged filter 'on-the-fly'. Often large boats 'polish' their fuel, pumping from one tank to another through a separate filter system to keep fuel clean. This being Thailand, you have to wonder how well their filter systems were taken care of. Dodgy fuel abounds in the marine industry, especially in SE Asia. They do have their anchor down, which is the first thing you do in a situation where you lose propulsion. Curious that in only 15-20 meters of water offshore from the island their anchor didn't set at all. A boat this size normally carries enough anchor rode to easily anchor in 30-40 meters of water. Generally sea-floor substrates in the Gulf of Thailand are Sand, ideal for holding, and the depth contours offshore do look like it's probably sandy, though the navigation charts I have don't show what the bottom is in this area. -

I agree. There are already country specific forums. This tax forum pulls in information, examples, links, opinions etc from all nationalities. If no interest, a quick scroll and move on. What's the problem? -

Expat Taxation - Does anyone really know what's going on?
IMO the principle to follow is - never give a government department any more information than one has to. I won't be getting a tax number until Immigration tells me I have to have one. I won't be submitting a tax return in Thailand until the TRD tells me I have to. When I do submit a tax return, it will have zero income, because I will be transferring pre-2024 savings for the next 5-6 years. Plus any tax-free allowances, just to do their heads in. If the Thai government wants to waste its time chasing me, bring it on. -

Game over
First of all, I am deeply sorry you were infected by this virus. I sincerely hope you make a full and good recovery. I support everyone's right to decide for themselves if they do or do not wear a mask, as much as I hate them myself. Whether you wearing a mask during a particular weekend would have prevented you from contracting Covid cannot be said with certainty. Even now, studies talk about 19 percent protection from mask for early strains, whereas later Covid variants could not be stopped by a mask. I do not know which strain caught you, obviously. The problem with mandatory mask wearing is that it causes an annoyance to those of us who do not want to wear masks. I had to go on a 12 hour flight wearing a mask. Now, I go on flights without masks, and still do not have Covid. So I hope you understand why I think masks are not a wonder weapons, and they did impact my life, albeit in a limited way. Nevertheless, if you wish to wear a mask of course that is your right. Above all I hope you regain full health, as you are a contributor I always read with great interest. -

Pager Explosions in Lebanon Target Hezbollah Members 9 Dead Thousands Injured
You are just clutching at straws . The people targeted were already opposed to the state of Israel . This could be an incentive for the younger generation to learn not to attack Israel . It could make them change their mind about joining Hezbollah and becoming members of a terror group- 1

Prime Minister Starmer Defends Taking Donations Amid Criticism
Oh dear. The right whingers are really scraping the bottom of the barrel. The Rwanda (correct spelling) fiasco was all about getting rid of Jonny Foreigner to placate the frothing Kipper, BNP, white nationalists. The Albania plan is to process asylum application in situ so that those eligible won't have to suffer a Channel crossing. I know it's hard for you rightards but you must accept that .... erm.. . you lost, get over it! -

passport required for domestic flights? I have a Thai DL
Nothing unusual about that, many/all, countries will issue 2 passports if you have a good reason. Many frequently travers will have one with an embassy getting visas and be flying on the other. That the vast majority of people don’t know this is because they fly so infrequently they have never had a reason to have a second passport. FWIW, I have flown domestically 4 or 5 times this year, I have always used either my pink card or Thai driving licence. It has been the same in virtually every hotel as well.
