A man foraging for banana shoots in a local forest stumbled upon a gruesome discovery after following a foul odour. The man, was shocked by what he found, as he discovered the decomposing body of a woman dumped in the woods, with insects crawling over the remains. Her upper body had decayed to the point that only skeletal remains were left.

At 08:00 on September 19, 2024, Pol. Lt. Ratchanat Rassadornpranee, an investigator at Nakhon Chai Si Police Station, was alerted to the discovery of a body in a grassy area along the Nakhon Chai Si-Huai Phlu Road in Moo 5, Sam Phrathuan subdistrict, Nakhon Chai Si district, Nakhon Pathom province.

Police officers, led by Pol. Col. Phayap Sothorangkun, the chief of Nakhon Chai Si Police Station, along with a forensic team, hospital staff from Huai Phlu, and the Nakhon Pathom Volunteer Foundation, arrived at the scene to investigate.

The body was found lying face down in a water channel about three metres from the road. The corpse had swollen and was covered in maggots. Upon retrieving the body, police observed that it was severely decomposed, with the upper portion, from the chest upwards, reduced to almost skeletal remains. The lower body was swollen from decay.

The victim, a female, had a black beaded bracelet on her right wrist, while a watch adorned her left wrist. A phone charger was tightly wrapped around her neck.

In the back pocket of her shorts, officers found a wallet containing some cash, two Vietnamese banknotes, an ATM card, an eye donation card from the Thai Red Cross, a driver’s license, and an ID card identifying the victim as Ms. Thitirat (surname withheld), a 47-year-old resident of Bangkok. The body was handed over to the foundation for further autopsy at Nakhon Pathom Hospital.

Mr. Surachet (surname withheld), 32, the first person to discover the body, who works as a farmer nearby, reported that he was searching for banana shoots that morning when he was overwhelmed by the strong stench. After following the smell, he found the body submerged in a water channel and immediately notified the police.

Police contacted the victim’s family, who confirmed that Ms. Thitirat had been missing since 10 September 2024. She had last been seen driving a black MG sedan, leaving her home in the Din Daeng area of Bangkok to transport a passenger to Nakhon Pathom.

Investigators believe that Ms. Thitirat may have been attacked and killed by the passenger, who then stole her vehicle. While police are still exploring other motives, they are focusing on robbery and murder. CCTV footage from various locations is being reviewed to trace the missing vehicle, which has been tracked heading south.

GPS signals records from the car, shows that on September 13, the car was detected in Nakhon Sawan. CCTV cameras in Phuket recorded the vehicle on September 14, near Thalang District Office and the local police station.

Phuket provincial police and Region 8 officers have been alerted, with instructions for all units to be on the lookout for the vehicle. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working swiftly to apprehend the suspect.

UPDATE

Arrest Made in Murder and Car Theft Case of Female Driver, Suspect Has Extensive Criminal Record

Authorities have arrested "Mr. Max," the primary suspect in the murder and car theft of a female driver, after her body was discovered in Nakhon Pathom. The suspect, who has a lengthy criminal history, is now facing multiple charges, including new ones that have recently emerged.

The victim, Ms. Thitirat, 47, a private driver, went missing after picking up a male passenger. Her body was later found on September 19 in a ditch along the Nakhon Chai Si-Huai Phlu road in Nakhon Pathom Province.

Late that same night, a police investigative team from Region 7 arrested Narongsak, alias Max, 35, in Kamphaeng Saen District, Nakhon Pathom. He was wanted under a warrant issued by the Min Buri Criminal Court for theft. The suspect was apprehended at a residence in Moo 4, Huai Mon Thong Subdistrict.

During interrogation, Mr. Max confessed to using a ride-hailing app on September 11 to book a car from Sukhumvit Road in Bangkok's Phra Khanong District to Nakhon Pathom. Ms. Thitirat was the driver. Upon reaching Nakhon Chai Si-Huai Phlu Road, Mr. Max claimed to be feeling carsick and asked to stop the vehicle. When Ms. Thitirat stopped, he moved to the driver's seat, strangled her, and later used a phone charger to ensure she was dead. He then dumped her body in a ditch and fled the scene in her vehicle.

Surveillance footage shows Mr. Max driving the stolen car to southern provinces, including Chumphon, Phuket, and Phang Nga, before returning to Nakhon Pathom, where he was eventually arrested.

An investigation into Mr. Max’s past revealed multiple previous offenses, including two rape charges in 2010 in the jurisdiction of Khok Kram Police Station, an assault case in 2023 under Chaiyapruek Police Station, and theft cases in 2024 involving Bang Yai and Min Buri police stations.

Further reports from Min Buri Police Station indicate that on August 22, Mr. Max borrowed a friend’s motorcycle, claiming he would use it to top up his mobile phone at a convenience store. However, he never returned the bike, and his friend was unable to contact him, leading to a complaint being filed. Despite a summons being issued, Mr. Max did not appear, resulting in a court warrant for theft in late August.

Police from Region 7 have transferred Mr. Max to Min Buri Police Station for further questioning. He denied the old theft charges, claiming that a friend borrowed the motorcycle and he did not know its whereabouts. Authorities plan to detain him in relation to the prior charges tomorrow.

As for the current murder case in Nakhon Pathom, no formal questioning has been conducted yet. Investigators from Nakhon Chai Si Police Station are expected to take over the case, where they will likely seek to prosecute Mr. Max for the murder. It has been confirmed that Nakhon Chai Si Police have coordinated with Min Buri authorities to secure Mr. Max for further legal proceedings.

On the afternoon of September 20, investigators from Nakhon Chai Si will question Mr. Max and conduct a reenactment of the crime at the scene before returning him to Min Buri for detention on the outstanding theft charges.
