Dry herb vape recommendation anyone?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've been looking for a good but cheap dry herb vape for a while now. I have a DynaVap vape that was working great at the beginning, but not very good lately (probably reassembled wrong after cleaning).

I see now that there are many electronic vapes for reasonably low prices (under 2000THB) such as Virgo, Gemini, Edge V2, Pathfinder and more.

Anyone here using one of those? Recommendations?

TIA

Anything around 2,000 Baht or less probably won't last and/or work so well. The one below is high quality and good value. Quality is on the same level as many of the more expensive ones:

This model costs a bit less, same brand and quality, but form factor isn't as nice:

I can highly recommend the Fenix Pro. Works well over time, well priced. and you don't need to be a rocket scientist to clean it (which is periodically a must for any vape).

can't watch the VDO as I don't have any account I can log in with. I see a Fenix 2.0 for 4590THB.

I use the Starry 4 regularly. I also bought about 25 extra of their proprietary dosing capsules with it. The capsules are small stainless steel cartridges that fit right into the oven chamber. It comes with one when you buy the machine, but you can buy extra ones sold separately in packs of five.

The advantage to the dosing capsules is that you never have to clean the oven because the dry herb never touches the oven surface. Eventually, I clean all the used capsules with alcohol and then reload all of them with ground up flower at once using about 5 grams of total ground flower. Then I can use the vape for 2 to 3 weeks without ever having to grind up and fiddle with any flower. I just swap the capsules within a second as needed. It is very fast and convenient this way and no regular cleanup is ever needed.

You can probably fit up to 0.25 to 0.30 of a gram in each capsule if you pack them hard, but I've found using no more than 0.20 grams per capsule is best. A slightly smaller packing makes it easier for air to flow through the capsule for a smoother hit and then you won't have to draw so hard on the vape either.

The mouthpiece requires cleaning because it gets filled up with resin. 3 small removable metal pieces that need to be soaked in alcohol and then the larger rubber parts can be cleaned separately with alcohol using a cotton swab.

You can also buy a second mouthpiece separately so that you can swap them when one gets filled up with resin and this will reduce cleaning frequency. Then you can clean both of them at once, after they both require cleaning. The manufacturer has a short video on their YouTube channel showing more about how to clean the mouthpiece.

I also like the fact that the battery is removable. So you can buy spare batteries separately and swap them out too. If the battery runs out of power while you're using it, you can then swap the battery with a pre-charged spare battery. Or you can charge the existing battery that is in the machine with a USB-C cable connected to the device and then you can continue to use it while it's charging if you want to. Many of the other lower cost battery powered devices can't continue to be used while the battery is charging.

You can heat the oven up to as high as 240°C, but I've found using it at 190°C offers a good balance of delivering the vapors without hurting your throat. Some people like using higher temperatures because you will see a lot more vape smoke as you exhale. To me that doesn't matter and a higher temperature also causes the flower to heat up more, which delivers more of a burnt taste to it that I don't like.

I swear by the Flowermate V5 Nano. A hair under 5K THB, shipping available here in LoS. Removable battery, convection, easy cleaning, chamber holds 0.3g, variable temp range. Extra screens, cleaning brush, cable, a nice storage bag, everything closes up and packs together for easy, no-spill, transport. Has small capsule for pre-loading and capsule for oil/extracts.   I own 2.

That all sounds way to much of a hassle.

I will stick with my one paper with filter joints...I think I'm addicted to the ritual 🙃🫠😉

Nice! You can also buy a protective silicone sleeve for it, which sells for about ฿220 I think. You can find them on Shopee if you search for "Xmax Silicone". I put one on both of mine. It just prevents the metal from getting scratched up, it also makes it a bit grippier, and hopefully adds a bit of protection, if I were to drop one of them.

There is also a setting on the device where you can flip the numbers over on the LCD screen in case you prefer to have the numbers facing the other way.

What temperature setting do you normally vape at?

Sure, keep it simple. Why not. The biggest reason I switched to a dry herb vaporizer like this was because when I first started smoking, I immediately got a cough and had phlegm coming up from my throat regularly. As soon as I switched to the vape method, all my throat problems went away within a week. Also, when you vape, there is no tar or ash going into your lungs, because there is no real smoke and no combustion from a vape as opposed to smoking it.

Found the Starry V4 for 3,190 THB at https://kondee420.com/product/xmax-starry-4/
but can't find the accessories as per @HugoFastor

and the XMax V3 Pro Dry-herb Vaporizer for 2,890 THB

If you want to buy extra spare batteries, you can find them on Lazada. Just make sure you buy the ones with the flat head on the positive side of the battery tip as there are two slightly different designs of that same battery.

There are also quite a few advantages I found to the Starry 4 versus the V3 Pro:

The Starry 4 can heat up to 240°C. The V3 Pro has a max temperature of only 220°C. Not an issue for me because I normally vape at 190°C anyway. But for people who prefer higher temperatures, it might make a difference to them.

The Starry 4 also has an adjustable airflow control vent slider which allows you to increase the fresh airflow through the oven, which then makes it easier to inhale from the vape. The V3 Pro doesn't have that feature.

Also, the oven chamber of the V3 Pro only fits about 0.15 grams of flower. That isn't very much. The Starry 4 holds double that amount at up to 0.3 grams.

Not sure if the V3 Pro can still be used while the battery is charging, but the Starry 4 can. The V3 Pro also seems to come with a lower capacity battery than the battery in the Starry 4.

The Starry 4 is about an inch shorter in length than the V3 Pro, thus making it a bit more convenient to fit in your pocket and hold in the palm of your hand.

Lastly, the V3 Pro will only stay powered on for a maximum of 6 minutes and then it automatically shuts off. Perhaps it's a heat issue. However, the Starry 4 can stay powered on for up to 10 minutes per session.

210 is good too. I've tried 200 and 210. But by the 3rd draw at 210 the herb gets really hot and I start to cough. I think anything above 170 is enough heat to draw out the THC. I normally go at 190 or 195 if the flower has a lot of resin.

I had ordered more of the capsules 2 days before this thread.

Another option for the Starry 4 is, see pix.

Why on earth is it always so necessary to always suck some <deleted> into your precious lungs???  Isn't it enough with all the damn particles in the air from December to March/April??

The method being discussed here is vaping, which works through induction heating. That means no open flame, no burning and no combustion, which means no particles going into your lungs. Only cannabinoids being inhaled in the form of vapors. Here is the science from a doctor:
