The incident occurred morning of October 3, in Chiang Mai’s Mae Rim district, where a man was electrocuted and killed while attempting to navigate his motorcycle through a landslip zone. The accident took place along the Mae Rim-Saluang road at approximately 08:15.

According to the Mae Rim district chief, recent heavy rainfall had triggered a minor landslip, causing trees, soil, and vegetation to block the road. The landslip also brought down several electricity poles, resulting in live power cables strewn across the area. Authorities promptly closed the road, issuing warnings to locals not to attempt to pass through.

Despite the closure, the victim, a man believed to be in his 20s, reportedly ignored the warnings. He attempted to walk his motorcycle over the debris while keeping the engine running. Tragically, either he or the motorcycle came into contact with a live high-voltage cable, delivering a fatal electric shock. The resulting surge not only killed the man instantly but also ignited both his body and the motorcycle.

Emergency responders arrived on the scene but were forced to wait until officials from the local electrical authority could isolate the power to the area. By the time responders could safely approach, the fire had already consumed most of the man and his motorcycle, leaving behind severely burned remains.

Authorities have yet to release the identity of the victim, and local police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Pictures from responders.

A poor analogy

So, in your mind, it´s ok to leave electricity on the ground posing a danger and just put up signs. That´s not poor analogy, right? No, it´s comes from a mastermind! 🤣

Even when they do put up warnings they're just ignored. Crazy.

You assume he could read?

Quite a lot of the Hill Tribe people living in that area never went to any school.

How about 'authorities promptly' switching off the electricity ?????

- We have one fool ignoring signs.

- & a whole department of fools ignoring the most basic of safety protocols not turning off the power.

They had time to put up a sign but not turn off the power ??? - I'm struggling to find the logic here, if there is any.

No, you are perfectly right. There is no logic at all.

Extremely valid point...   I'm wondering why there were not full on barriers blocking the road completely....   The 'land slide' is clearly an unstable mass of land and could easily have 'slid further' - so the electricity was not the only hazard and simply placing a 'sign' seems rather negligent.

But more so than any of the above, I'm wondering why on earth they would not turn off power the the fallen power lines - surely thats the very first step in any response.

What you wrote in your post, quote However, if a person looking for mushrooms or just crossing the mountain/forest

Come on keep up

Yeah, as an example. It was not important what they did. What was important, was that they put up a sign, but did not turn of electric. How many time are you going to miss that? Trouble understanding?

I took examples of what people can do. What are you talking about. It has nothing to do with if they pick mushrooms, berries, only walking or playing tennis in the <deleted> forest. It was that you were not thinking anything about that electric company knowingly are leaving fallen down live electric posing danger on the ground. Get it know, or a stupid laugh again?

People can become sign-blind, people commonly ignore signs... Or, for whatever reason they may not be looking in that direction of the sign or have missed it (i.e. if they were off the path or head-looking downwards foraging etc - which is a perfectly reasonable example of why someone missed the sign).

The best example of why someone might not 'read the sign' is their lack of language ability.

Getting petty about why someone missed a sign is a bit pathetic - the fact is the deceased missed the sign or ignored it...  Either way he crossed into a highly dangerous area that was a) left highly dangerous by authorities not turning of the power & b) remained unstable, so more than a simple sign 'should' have been placed there.

I can only presume English is not your native language - I have no idea the reason for not turning off the electric (ask the electric company if you are interest)

Go back and start again - all I said he was stupid for ignoring the warning signs

Why was the power not turned off then ? as usual wait until someone dies. How were people informed of the closure, did they even bother to put up a warning sign ? the road has no barriers with easy access to the road. RIP buddy.

Doesn't even look like any signs were put up.

Yeah, I also fell for that at start, so I made the same mistake. No apologies needed. 🙂
