Are Older Men in Thailand Trading Love for Financial Ruin

The sadder one's are the older fellas who will come for a couple of weeks, fall in 'love' with a gal half their age, sell up everything and move to Thailand.

I did that, but gave away rather than sell.

What's wrong or sad with doing that?

Don't assume the thinking and culture is like whatever you call home. It's not!

If you don't know her culture and she does not know your culture then there will be many moment when you clash - because each of you assumed that the other partner knew what to do in situation x, y and z.

Yes, they know how to react in their culture.

And that is best case scenario where you both play fair and really want to live happily together.

I paid 300kbht for the house deposit, then 10kbht/month for her mortgage.

The monthly repayments aren't any more than renting the same house.

A net loss to my total assets of 7,500GBP, I guess if you're working as a Thai schoolteacher that might be significant.

Man and here I thought you were smart with women....certainly after your UK divorce.

At no point in my life did i ever give a woman (Western or Thai) 300,000 baht or paid mortgage for a house I will never own.

How come you learned absolutely nothing from your previous divorce? The mortgage I pay is the same as rent is a pathetic excuse of a man being submitted.

I will trade all my money for Py and fun here than in America or Western Europe...why?  Better ROI!  Common Sense!

Paying for it in the USA not really an option. It's fraught with danger and crime. A real risk of getting robbed or stabbed by her or a pimp, especially if you're older. The deed is usually done in cars or cheap motels, not your home.

I can understand if you're poor, and have limited income, you may not wish to share. But I have plenty and might as well spend it before I'm dead.

That is a pretty lame reply considering you are defrauding UK government to get the tiny pension increases.

So what do you think he should have done? Rented instead, having no security of tenure?

No point in attacking people just for the sake of it. You end up just looking like a mad dog.

A bit below the belt to attack a family man IMO.

He has been posting for years about all the women being essentially prostitutes. He talks about them like degenerates only to be used for sex.

Would you feel better about yourself if his pension had whittled away to nothing? What has made you so bitter?

Take it easy man. Go back to review your posts. That is not a happy person. There is banter and there is being malicious.

I am laughing at you. And your fantasy world where men and women work in perfect harmony each paying half for rent and food. This is misinformation.

It is not how it works.

It is always one party, almost always the man, sometimes the woman, who pays the rent and food. There is no "partnership".

I live in a large, three bed detached house, all rooms ensuite, set in 1.5 rai and a maids house in the garden ....rent free.

In return I pay the bills......2000/3000B/month and for food and drink.....coppers.

Not a bad partnership as partnerships go.

I see. So you take my posts seriously, but not his.

Perhaps you hate women too.

Of course, because you are serious. That's his experience, right or wrong. What's the point of attacking him for it?

Because he posts his woman hating drivel all the time on the open forum, just like I post my replies.

So, what is your point attacking me about it?

On the other hand:

What we have here is an age old issue. For millennia men have been searching for a fountain of youth...

An older man comes here and finds a younger attractive female. When he is with her, he feels like he is 20 again. Is there anything else that can make him feel more vibrant and young than having a lovely  girlfriend who loves him so much - real or not. He has discovered the fountain of youth...

Can you put a price tag on this miracle? Is there anything else in the world that can accomplish this miracle?

Viagra might help the old buggers get a head start (pun intended). 🤣

I thought you lived here. Do you rent? If not, then you   paid, or are paying, for a house you can own, but not the land under it. If you left, you would have to sell the house and split the profits with your wife, so she will get some cash., unless you divorce and decide to stay in the house. The house will most likely still be in her name, so she will get something if you leave and sell or die.  The same happens in the west, with a better chance of the woman ending up with a house you paid for in the event of a divorce. I luckily bought my house in Texas a week before we were married, so it was mine. If you are renting, you are paying for both you and your wife to live there, and it's money thrown away, besides having a roof over your head while you stay, because when you leave, you get nothing.

Well, my wife paid off the house before we married. We live in a condo (I prefer condo life for convenience and security)  and we rent  because the drive to her work is relatively quick.

I wanted to buy a condo many, many times in Bangkok because I do prefer to own for many reasons, including furnishing the place to my comfort and not having to sign annual rental agreements.

However, every single time I look at the prices, I just can't justify buying it ( and I tried many, many times to justify it). The rent is just so incredibly cheap and landlords do actually take care of any issues you have with the unit. So we keep renting and renting.

Now, if I was absolutely sure we would stay in Thailand until we die, then maybe I would buy.

I've had a fabulous time in Thailand, sex with many attractive women, 2x LTRs and then the one I chose to keep for the past 15 years. Sure it cost me money, but not the 1/2 million pounds that the schoolteacher in the UK took. Essentially I spend less than my pension, so I'll likely never run out of money.

Wish I'd discovered Thailand when I was in my 40s.

Jump in , the waters fine, but never spend more than you can afford to lose!

You Da Man!
