Banking Headaches in Thailand: FATCA Frustrations and U.S. Ties!

Hey everyone! Has anyone else had trouble opening a bank account in Thailand? Even my Thai girlfriend was asked if she's a U.S. person—whether she has a U.S. passport, a green card, or has spent more than three months in the U.S. It’s crazy because she’s never left Thailand in her life! We think it might have been because I was with her when she applied, and they said no bank account for her if she’s "linked" to FATCA.

For me, it's a bit easier since I'm not a U.S. person anymore. I gave up my green card because it was causing me so many problems. I couldn't invest in crypto or manage my portfolio properly. After sending it back, I returned to Thailand with a huge sigh of relief. But even now, European banks still ask if I’m a U.S. person.

What’s your experience in Thailand with this?

Not sure that asking a question about nationality is such a big deal is it. If you and your gf are not us citizens its a non-issue as the fatca form doesn't come in to play.
