Police in Patong, led by Police Colonel Chalermchai Hoernsawat and Deputy Police Superintendent Police Lieutenant Colonel Narubodin Phangleesen, arrested a 29-year-old German man at a hotel on Prachanukhro Road in Patong, Kathu District, Phuket

The arrest was conducted by a special task force headed by Police Lieutenant Colonel Sinchai Sukhi, who, along with the Patong Police investigation unit, detained the suspect. The man was found to have overstayed his visa in Thailand and was in possession of drug paraphernalia.

Following the arrest, authorities conducted a urine test on the suspect at Patong Hospital, which tested positive for methamphetamine, a Class 1 controlled substance in Thailand. Consequently, he was charged with the illegal use of methamphetamine and for violating immigration regulations by overstaying his permitted time in the country.

The suspect and evidence were subsequently handed over to Patong Police Station’s investigators for further legal proceedings. Local authorities in Phuket are continuing to monitor and address issues of drug use and overstaying foreign tourists in an effort to maintain safety and compliance with Thai law, reported Matichon Online.

Looks like the German is still stoned.

Isn't he holding the pen upside down?

Probably doesn't want to sign his life away... tad late though.

Why do Thai authorities take overstaying so seriously? A visa is only a rubber stamp that serves no real purpose other than getting foreign currency for the government. Applying for a visa should be for the sole purpose of vetting would-be visitors before letting them in to the country (Visas on arrival do not meet that requirement). While somebody is in Thailand they are still spending  their foreign money with local businesses whether or not they have a current visa..

Neuter him and send to defend freedom loving people in UA.

Ok, Jokes aside: how did they force him to piss [at hospital]? Last time at Bangkok disco during police raid almost nobody did so. Except one german wimp and weirdo from that country south of AU.

And private Patong hospital is not CSI facility certified to perform such "testing". Don't you just love how things are "working"?

Does your philosophy apply to your own country also?

He was forced to provide a specimen?   You really think that refusing to, or being unable to fill the bottle, absolves suspects from being tested?

You can ask that question about any immigration offices around the world. Search utube for Australian border force, and mind you, except for kiwis and Aussies EVERYBODY must apply for a visa before flying there

I'd does in the UK, over 1,000,000 illegal immigrants in the UK and never get deported. Current estimates are 1 in 10 people in the uk are illegally in the uk. Feeling the draw back to thailand growing. However there is a looming road block to this happening "Threat of beng Taxed".

You missed the topic.

It's about tourists & not about asylum seekers.
