A motorist was arrested in Brooklyn on Saturday morning after allegedly threatening a man with an antisemitic remark. The suspect, 31-year-old Muhammad Hashim, is accused of shouting, “I’m gonna kill you f–king Jews” at a 43-year-old man in Borough Park, a predominantly Jewish neighborhood. The incident occurred during Yom Kippur, a sacred day on the Jewish calendar.

According to police, Hashim's behavior escalated when he reportedly drove onto the sidewalk, heightening the tension of the situation. He now faces several charges, including aggravated harassment as a hate crime, aggravated harassment based on religion or race, and reckless endangerment. Additionally, Hashim was charged with false personation for allegedly providing incorrect personal details to officers during his arrest.

The Jewish neighborhood patrol group, Shmira Public Safety, played a key role in tracking the suspect. The group had initially responded after being notified of the harassment, capturing images and videos of Hashim's vehicle. Though he left the scene shortly after, Hashim returned soon afterward, prompting Shmira to follow him and contact the NYPD. Hashim was ultimately arrested at 12:20 a.m. at the intersection of New Utrecht Avenue and 50th Street.

Photos released by Shmira show Hashim being taken into custody. Video footage shared by the group also depicts a motorist driving aggressively near a pedestrian. Although Shmira claims that Hashim attempted to hit the pedestrian, the NYPD has not filed any charges related to that allegation. A lawyer for Hashim was unavailable for comment.

This arrest comes amid a rise in antisemitic incidents in New York City. Tensions have been particularly high following the October 7, 2023, attack on Israel by Hamas, which has spurred ongoing military action in Gaza. According to data released by the NYPD, there have been 117 more reported antisemitic incidents this year compared to the same period last year.

The incident in Borough Park serves as a troubling reminder of the growing wave of antisemitism in the city, as communities remain on high alert during these volatile times.

Well done to the US police for acting and taking this anti-semitism seriously.

In Khan's London they'd have threatened to arrest the Jew for being "openly Jewish".

So it’s agreed, there are and need to be limits to freedom of speech.

Certainly when there are face to face threats to kill based on religion. Especially when they are followed with accelerating in a car towards to victim on the sidewalk and giving false details to police.

Enquiring about/repeating a government ministers policy on Facebook? Not so much...

Do you have the names of people facing justice for these facebook grievances you keep referring to.

I’ll happily dig out the actual crimes they committed to correct your misrepresentation of their cases…. Again.

His name was Mr Shelley. He made a factually correct statement "coming to a town near you"  (Rayner said it) and asked a legitimate question "when it's on your turf" (as Rayner promised it would be) "then what"?

Save your time, we know what the judge said in 2 tier Britain as he sentenced the man to jail time for his temerity to ask questions about government policy. That's the problem, but highlight it if you wish, it only proves my point. We also know the guys who broke the female officers nose at Manchester Airport still haven't been charged. We all know why.

His name wasn’t Shelley, it was Lee Joseph Dunn, Shelley was the prosecutor.

Lee Dunn, date of birth 10/07/1973, is from Egremont, Cumbria and pleaded guilty to a charge of sending a grossly offensive message, contrary to section 127(1)(a) and (3) of the Communications Act 2003.

Thanks Chomps, a useful post for once. Do try to keep it up.

It was indeed Mr Dunn (not Mr Shelley) who was jailed for being offensive on FaceBook. Clearly they consider this a more serious offense than physically assaulting and breaking the nose of a female police officer at Manchester Airport, since those thugs haven't even been charged.

Two tier justice under two tier free gear Keir.

He was jailed for posting grossly offensive content in breach of the law.

You pretend otherwise while I’ll rely on the formal record of his conviction published by the Crown Prosecution Service.

Forgive me, I didn’t intend to set off all your other self stroked  grievances.

Indeed. Jailed for being very rude on FaceBook.

Meanwhile the guys who assaulted the female police officer at Manchester airport, breaking her nose in the process were not even charged.

Thanks for pointing that out again. 2 tier justice can never be highlighted enough.

what antisemitic attacks are you referring to?   any dead Jews in the u.s., or any seriously injured?    Arabs are semites so perhaps you mean the ongoing genocide in Gaza which now seems to be heading to lebanon as well?

Antisemitism specifically refers to Jews by DEFINITION.

If you have a problem with that, start lobbying dictionaries.

Do antisemitic attacks need to be at the level of dead Jews to please you?

Anyway yes well before October 7 --

"Brooklyn Motorist Arrested for Threatening to Kill Jews"

Those pesky "Brooklyn motorists".   Do all "Brooklyn motorists" want to kill jews?  Is it related to the traffic conditions over there?  Wonder if there is anything else afoot that would cause this resentment towards jews.

I'll bite.

First question -- NO

Second question -- EXTREMELY DOUBTFUL

Third question -- YES (antisemitism is ancient, there are always excuses)

Sure, very peace loving kipa wearing maza eating very kosher people. Yean, in Brooklyn.

Inflammatory B.S. but credit to you that you stopped at matzoh eating and didn't go directly to blood libel stuff. I guess you can call that a CODED friendlier antisemitism.

Blood libel - Wikipedia

Blood libels often claim that Jews require human blood for the baking of matzos, an unleavened flatbread which is eaten during Passover.

This is called hate speech! It's fairly obvious that it's not quite the same as freedom of of speech.
