Must-Know Famous Thai Ghost Stories

Yes, a short rundown on some of the ghosts in Thailand.  Thai ghosts are much more likely to have a conversation with you.  After 16 years and nary a ghost experience here I'd say my foreign mindset and culture is the cause.  I've seen so many in soap operas.

Not sure if I am allowed to plug stuff here, but I wrote a short book a while ago about all the ghosts, spirits, magic and so on in Thailand. It was based on an article I wrote for a magazine a while ago and grew into something larger. I mostly just wrote it as I became interested in the topic after researching it.

It is only on Kindle though. It's called Haunted Thailand: Ghosts and Spirits in the Land of Smiles. It might be of interest if you enjoyed the above. Apologies if this is not allowed or annoying, it just fits exactly with the topic.

there is Mae Nak shrine in Phrakanong.

That's the one in Wat Mahabut, mentioned in the OP.

It is on Khlong  Phrakhanong, most recent arrivals (Thais or foreigners) nowadays call the area Onnut (it's not near BTS Phrakhanong).

The shrine of "Mae Nak Phrakhanong" is even on Google maps.

Krahang (กระหัง)

Krahang is a male ghost that flies at night using rice baskets

I had to watch a tiktok today, a cat dressed up as Krahang, with rice-basket wings.

O tempora, o mores

Suea Saming is represented obliquely in the 2004 film by Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Sud Pralud/ Tropical Malady.  It's a good film and worth checking out.

where can you watch that film, never seen it on sale anywhere, even bootleg ones,

Thanks @CharlieH we need to remember the spirits are around us all the time.  Some of you don't believe in them, not everything is imaginary. (And soon we can celebrate Halloween). 👍 Then Happy All Saints day to all.

Agreed.

Slightly OT but definitely linked - We westerners are the only group to DISbelieve in spirits.

The story that there was a 'Big Bang' and space dust & debris somehow come alive as 'space jizz' and evolved into humans is even more far fetched than spirits, ghosts etc imho.

Anyway, this guy has some interesting theories on Spirit Channelling and the fact that demonic clowns exist in almost if not ALL cultures - also some bits on Garden of Eden serpent Naga worship.
