The families of two students who lost their lives in an incident involving a six-wheeled soil truck and a school bus are seeking justice and accountability. The collision , which occurred around 17.00 on October 29, at the intersection near Suan Nok Park, Samed Subdistrict, Buriram, has left the community grieving and outraged.

The incident happened as the bus was transporting students from a local school to their villages. The bus was attempting a right turn onto a side road when a soil truck, coming straight from the opposite direction, struck the back of the vehicle. Three students who were standing at the rear of the shuttle were thrown off. Among them, two students, a 13 year old girl, known as “Nin” in Grade 7, and a 16 year old girl, “Om-am” in Grade 11, were pronounced dead at the scene. Another male student in Grade 12 sustained serious injuries.

The families are devastated and have raised concerns about the lack of accountability from both drivers involved. The soil truck driver, Mr. Methee, 30, claims he was traveling in a straight path and insists he was not at fault. Meanwhile, Mr. Luea, 77, the school bus driver, argues he had already cleared the lane and blamed the soil truck for the collision. In a concerning turn, Mr. Luea reportedly took the bus to a repair shop immediately following the accident, allegedly attempting to erase evidence, and has since avoided cooperating with authorities.

Ms. Saranya the mother of Om-am, expressed her grief, pointing out that school had only reopened for two days when the crash happened. She voiced her frustration over the bus driver’s lack of accountability, particularly as he claims he is not responsible. The family worries about the lack of support and compensation for their loss.

Ms. Prakrong the mother of Nin, shared her devastation at finding her daughter lying face-down on the road. She recalled that Mr. Luea had been using his shuttle to transport students daily, with 20-30 children on board each day, never expecting such a tragic outcome. She is baffled and hurt that neither driver has come forward to speak to the families affected, adding that her daughter’s dream of becoming a teacher was tragically cut short.

The community is now calling for a thorough investigation and appropriate action to hold those responsible accountable.
