Otherwise known as the marginal tax rate.  A relatively simple but often misunderstood tax concept.

Yes, but in some European countries income taxation begins with with more than 35% – my Scandinavian home country begins with almost 38% – which is why I mentioned the 5% starting level, as it makes good sense to some. Marginal income tax in Europe can be over 50%, 53% in my home country; so, in that view Thailand will still be a kind of "tax haven"...😊

I'd rather give my left nut than pay taxes like that and get no return. It's literal theft

Feel free to leave if you are that badly mistreated.

The DTV grants a 180-day stay per entry, and according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, multiple re-entries are allowed, making it an attractive option. However, a possible 180-day extension at local Thai immigration offices remains murky, as the Ministry of the Interior has yet to comment.

Aren't they stupid?

If they hope every stayer on that visa to stay for one full year(by extension), they only need to order to all of their immigration offices to allow it.

Or some rebel stations say No as they want to keep the 'Allowance of further stay(after initial 6 months)' as a bargaining card to earn their   secret profit from the Local Visa Agent?

(Only those who applied for its another 180 days extension through the immigration broker can get it)

that is the purpose of the OCED agreement, CRS, and FACTA agreements on exchange of financial information.  Immigration will know when you pass 180 days and probably have set up some kind of computer exchange with the Thai Revenue Dept  We have yet to see any final information on tax schemes affecting tax residents or those earning income within Thailand.  We still wait...

As a US citizen, the US is not part of OCED and Thailand is FATCA tier 1 meaning Thailand reports US citizen accounts in Thailand but accounts in the US are not reported to Thailand.  If Thai authorities request my US tax returns, I'm out of here.

What is the issue with that? Are you jealous?

well, at least 138 countries decided it wasn't "fair" in July 2023 and signed an agreement to share finance data of their citizens.

These countries in that agreement said a primary target was the tax resident that wasn't paying what they considered a fair share.  Yeah they also were targetting other financial crimes too.  I realize that one can do certain things to avoid having to pay taxes to any  country but eventually I think that the countries will realize this and alter their tax schemes too.

Are these guys gonna report their worldwide income in Thailand and then pay Thailand taxes on it if they stay longer than 6months in a calendar year?

My guess is some will, some won't. There is a possibility that immigration may require a tax return for extensions including retirement and similar visas. But I also guess that due to the usual backlogs and delays immigration won't get involved. I pan to go for renewal at least a week in advance just in case.

The amount of people that actually split their time between 3 or more countries and never stay more than 180 days a year in one country is really really small.

It's not what the CRS is set up for and it's not even a secondary focus, let alone a main focus.

If you're a tax resident of nowhere and your home country doesn't have rules to claim it then that's not tax evasion.

No need to report anything.
Your whole financial state is disclosed to Thailand in the  ... agreement between both countries.

yeah, but IF you earn income somewhere then you should be paying tax on it.  I agree that taxation without any benefits to you is not fair, but since tax money is supposedly to run govt/countries, then everyone who earns the money should be paying a fair share in my opinion.  That is based on my being an American, and we well know that taxes and death are the only certainties in life.  If those of us that decided to retire here or stay here for any length of time (i.e. 179 days only a calendar year) during that time we obviously must use the roads, trains, taxis, ubercars or whatever, telephone systems, computer and wifi so we do benefit somewhat, hospitals too are available if needed, police (I know that issue) for safety is all part of the govt benefits for everyone here inclurding tourists and long stayers as well as the citizens.  By thinking you are "special" and should not have to pay taxes at all, that too is your perogative but to me that is not fair either.  IMHO anyway.

Easy, they should make an age limit and NOBODY 50 OR OVER should be able to apply for a DTV, only a Retirement visa only. No competing between these visas then if they implemented this simple thing.
