What changed though?  Did their god make an announcement?   Was version 2.0 of the Quran released with updated clothing requirements for females?

i think you will find in any country if a woman walks around in her underwear, she will be arrested or at least detained or sent to the hospital for a mental health check. Islamic laws though are there for religious reasons and their religion is strictly enforced. Although those who are not Islamic do not agree with their laws. They must still be adhered to. When in Rome do as the Romans do. She knew what would happen by her actions. If protesting there are better ways that do not end in your arrest or torture.

You demonstrate amazing ignorance that could be easily corrected with a tiny bit of thinking and research "i think you will find in any country if a woman walks around in her underwear, she will be arrested or at least detained or sent to the hospital for a mental health check." If you live in Thailand, you must have seen women walking about in underwear, or less. Stupid. Underwear is usually modified swimwear, or vice versa.

"Their religion is strictly enforced" what happened to "their is no compulsion in religion"? I have read the Koran: nothing in it says women must be covered head to toe. Maybe in the hadith, but so much of that is unsubstantiated claptrap from who knows who...

Pray tell us better ways to deal with intimidation by a bunch of fundamentalist women hating nutcase self righteous MCPS.

Islam has a severe problem: it blames women for men's lack of self control: when they see a woman all sorts of deviant thoughts arise in their limited minds. It is MENS problem inside them. Change yourself before you think you can demand the world fit your sick mind.

NEVER I read so many idiocies written in a single 6-1/4 lines short comment.

The true 'pearl of wisdom' in the commentary is 'When in Rome do as the Romans do'.

As if the poor girl were a Scandinavian teenager on a holiday trip, instead of a local girl, all of whom are tormented by an inhumane regime, which forbids western music, dancing, western dress code, and any form of free expression.

All in the name of a so-called god which has no qualms about approving the stoning, hanging, death by firing squad, death by falling from heights of human beings, for crimes such as homosexuality, fornication, adultery, sodomy, sexual misconduct, prostitution, political dissidence, apostasy, blasphemy, recidivist consumption of alcohol, etc.

Iran is believed to execute the most people per capita, disproportionally affecting the Sunni minority.

Though she may have gone too far,

Who are you to question her remarkably brave act from the comfort of Thailand?

I think you should learn your history before you expose your ignorance any further.

I was talking about history.  Islam is about 1500 years old.  If Islamic females could wear bikinis prior to 1979 what changed in the religion that changed the clothing requirements for women.   The only 2 things that occur to me is an announcement from their god or an updated version of their manual.

Seems like a fair question to me.  If the answer is that backwards evil minded tyrants took over the country by force and subjugated their women and destroyed a once civilised country that would also be an answer.  Not a religious one, but an answer nonetheless.  Something to look forward to in the west once Islam has the numbers I guess.

I was applauding her act of courage, but questioning her methods.

Even Afghanistan was progressive.

Khaled Hosseini's Kite Runner was set in far milder time.
