Japanese Yakuza Gang Members Arrested near Pattaya for Assault & Illegal Cannabis Sales

Police have apprehended two Japanese nationals on November 6, linked to a Yakuza gang, wanted in Japan for extortion and violent assault, and allegedly involved in illegal cannabis sales in Thailand. The arrest was ordered by Pol. Lt. Gen. Thiti Saengsawang, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, and executed by Pol. Maj. Gen. Teeradech Thamsutee and his investigative team.

 

The suspects, identified as Niki Fuku, 45, and Tomi Asai, 26, were detained at a resort in Pong Subdistrict, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi Province. They were wanted under criminal warrants issued by the Thai Criminal Court on October 17, 2024, for “joint extortion” and other violent acts.

 

The arrest follows an incident where the two suspects allegedly kidnapped a fellow Japanese national, held him overnight, subjected him to physical assault, and coerced him into consuming human waste, before releasing him.

 

According to authorities, both men admitted to previous arrests in Japan for cannabis-related offenses and stated that they fled to Thailand with 1 billion yen (approximately 300 million Thai baht). Once in Thailand, they established an operation selling cannabis and exporting it, despite the legal implications.

 

Pol. Lt. Gen. Thiti Saengsawang and Pol. Maj. Gen. Nopasin Poolsawat, Deputy Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, are expected to personally question the suspects at the Metropolitan Police Bureau later.

 

Further investigations are underway to determine the extent of their criminal activities in Thailand.
