I'm a Belgian national, my wife is Indonesian and our 6 year old son was born in Thailand (and his birth certificate is Thai).

Previously, for Indonesian law, children born out of this mixed marriages automatically carried the father's nationality but recently Indonesian law has been amended and those children can apply for an Indonesian passport and have double nationality (until the age of 18 when they will have to make a choice).

To process our request, the Indonesian Embassy needs a translation of the Thai birth certificate which has been recently legalized (ours is 6 years old).

The translation is not an issue, but does anyone know where I could have the legalization done ? Ministry of Foreign Affairs ?

Yes. Get an agency to do that for you. Many of them are at the corner of Sukhumvit and Withayu Rd.
