its gotta be a generational recycling phrase triggered when you reach a certain point in a cranky old age phase.

i remember as a nipper my grandfather saying the same thing.

my remedy...mutate or perish

Or... maybe they (we) disagree because kids don't spend 'all their free time with their heads over a screen'...    thats just the typical 'boomer complaint'...

Sure.. kids spend a lot of time using a screen... Computer, iPad...  there is also VR now...  Amazing resources which if used well provide outstanding educational benefits with fantastic Apps..

Parent guidance can be an issue - some parents allow their kids to 'watch trash' all day long - or thats the common complaint... And you may see some kids when going into a 'mom-n-pop' shop buried in the phone, but thats not a fair example of all kids.

You may even go to a restaurant and see kids on a phone - I don't think thats abnormal.

We go out for dinner a lot, we eat, we talk, we have fun... But at some point, adults will want to talk with the adults and the kids will want to play - they can get together at the end of the table and play some games on the iPad - they shouldn't be forced to sit there and just talk with each other.

No, that is what I see every day. Maybe you should get your head out of your screen and see what is going on around you.

Dear Friends,

Ever wonder why kids today can’t think straight?

I will tell you.

Kids today spend most of their useless days staring at miniscule screens, all the FING livelong day.

What do you imagine this might get one?

ZERO….

That’s what!

Just a moment ago, I tried to research some unimportant topic.

But, I tried to do it on a miniscule phone, an A55 5G phone.

Where did that get me?

NOWHERE, that’s where.

I am only saying that…when I was a lad….

And when I wanted to do a bit of research…

I would head to the nearest library…

I would search for about 10 or 20 pertinent research books….

Then, I would spread out all these books on a very large library table…

And go to work.

Even today, I use a minimum of FOUR FING Computer screens, not one less than about 27 inches, diagonally measured.

And then…I just go to town on researching whatever it is that I am trying to uncover.

So…I am just saying that I FINALLY have found out why kids today are so FING ….

STUPID.

The reason is that they spend most of their time staring at miniscule screens which….ONLY…

Provides them with just ONE FING PERSPECTIVE….for FING SAKE!!!!!

Really bugs me just how FING asinine this type of “research” is….

No FING….WAY….anybody…no matter how intelligent….could POSSIBLY research ANYTHING….on a FING tiny screen…. Simply IMPOSSIBLE….!!!!!!!!

Am I RIGHT?

Or, am I RIGHT????

Do you agree with me???

For FING Sake?

Someday…

A Real Rain is Going to Come….

And clean away all this MAGICAL THINKING……

Best regards,

But…perturbed, just a bit by all this nonsense….

Gamma

Note4:  EVEN using an Apple laptop is NO WAY to do any meaningful research ... .there is just not enough screen space on one lousy screen to open all the books you need to make comparisons in real time……

Doing research this way is a complete FING JOKE….in fact.

Go to the library, and spread out a dozen books in front of you….

Or, at the very least:  Buy a minimum of FOUR FING 29-inch screens….and a super-computer, such as I have…and then…..

GO TO TOWN!!!!!

(And, don't let the pimps from Apple...get in your way.)

Anyone who has done serious research for a PhD or high level education, or a professional position demanding comparing documents on the screen realizes that these tiny screens just do not cut it in the real world. I hate using a smartphone for the slowness and tedious fingering and sliding. So I hear you Gamma and understand your rantings.

Thank you, Sir!

In my most humble opinion, you are just about the ONLY one that really feels me pain.

I now have an A55 5G budget phone....which is fine for me....because it has 12GB of RAM....and I can increase storage memory to One Terabytes.... (I have 256 GBytes as purchased.  Plus, I can add plenty more just using Micro SD cards.....up to One TByte....).

So, this budget phone is DYNAMITE for me, because I do not waste my time playing FING games on a phone, or anywhere else, for that matter.

I just wonder, though, how many here on the TV Farang Pub have ever tried editing a 150-page PhD thesis/dissertation, on a smartphone.  Sure, I guess it can be done.

And, I have known of one PhD candidate at CMU who composed his entire thesis on a phone....BUT....of course....the thesis was ENTIRE GARBAGE....as expected.....

What a NUT CASE this PhD candidate was.

And now....

He is teaching at CMU....

Total Disastrous Joke.....of a thesis, in fact..... (Also, pedantic has heck....and STILTED as all get out, too!!!!!)

This is what is bound to happen when one composes a 150-page thesis on a smartphone....when....one has enough smarts to fill no more than about 20 pages with original thinking.....

Need I go on......????

Those little screens are addictive and put you in a state of always looking for the next high.  Settled down in a tiny town on the Mekong river at the beginning of the Covid lockdown.  I would take a bunch of kids to the Mekhong and swim and cliff dive.

We all had a blast but now four years later those same kids are addicted to those tiny screens and most aren't happy it seems.  The kids are harmless and easy to manage but is that really living!  I'll take a kid that is throwing rocks at cars and lighting things on fire vs a zombie smart phone addict that is a complete bore.

I agree.

Throwing rocks at cars is definitely a complete bore.
