In an unexpected turn of events at Bangkok's Mo Chit Bus Terminal yesterday, a man falsely accused a monk of firing a gun into the sky, only to find himself under arrest after his impaired ruse unraveled.

Police, led by Phuwadol Ounpho of the Bang Sue Police Station, received the report of a monk allegedly discharging two shots into the air on November 18 at 3pm. However, a search of the monk yielded no firearm, adding a perplexing layer to the alleged incident.

The plot thickened when law enforcement officers, already on the scene, noticed the initial reporter of the incident, a man named Bamrung, in the same vicinity. Exhibiting odd behaviour and attempting to approach the monk, Bamrung quickly garnered the attention of the officers who discovered an air gun secreted on his person. He was promptly apprehended for further questioning at the Bang Sue Police Station.

"I admit to drinking alcohol and making the call to the police”, admitted Bamrung during the interrogation.

The real issue lay in the subsequent panic Bamrung's false accusation induced, culminating in charges of causing fear through threats. He was slapped with a fine of 1,000 baht which he was unable to pay, resulting in his detention.

An attending officer reiterated the resource strain false alarms can have on the police force by detracting from genuine emergencies. The police stress the importance of reliable reporting and the repercussions of making false accusations.

Bamrung's ill-considered actions serve as a potent reminder of the potential danger and disruption that reckless behaviour can cause, even if the gun in question was not lethal. The police remain steadfast in upholding public safety and assuring the delivery of justice.
