The fixation with being constantly stoned baffles me. Why the need?

Surprised no one stated the obvious. Passengers can be prevented from flying if they appear to be impaired. This is for both safety and security reasons.    If one is impaired, how do you expect to be able to be able to exit the the aircraft in the event of an emergency?  Worse yet, if your reaction time is slowed, you can impede the exit of other passengers.

Half of the people on the plane are pissed out of their head. They sop up all the free champagne, wine and booze and then pop a Valium or Xanax on top of that and cruise. They are in a far worse state than anyone getting on the plane with a little bit of THC in their system. I've seen some that look completely inebriated on alcohol and pills. Forget about a flight emergency.

I'm thinking any aircraft emergency that has me trying to find an exist is not really that bad.

I was wondering about taking a single cannabis edible with me to the airport and consuming it after I check in for an international flight, but before I go through security and immigration. This way I should be nicely baked as I get on the plane, but also not carry anything with me out of the country that I shouldn't.

The flight I'm considering this for would only be about six hours. Probably, by the time I would be getting off the plane, the effects would be over with anyway. Do people often do this? Is it a pleasant way to fly?

I also read the following, but not sure if it's the same for everyone:

Potential Benefits:

1. Relaxation:

• For many regular users, cannabis can help reduce anxiety and promote relaxation, which might make a long flight feel more comfortable. This could be especially useful for those who feel stressed about flying or being in crowded spaces.

2. Pain or Discomfort Relief:

• Cannabis can alleviate physical discomfort, such as back pain or stiffness, which might make sitting for long periods more bearable.

3. Time Perception:

• Some users report that cannabis makes time seem to pass differently. This could make a six-hour flight feel shorter and more tolerable.

4. Entertainment Enhancement:

• Enjoying music, movies, or even just staring out the window might be more immersive and pleasurable.

Only way to fly…

I dropped a tab of LSD just before I got on a plane at Tan Son Nhut for my flight out of Vietnam and the war in 1971.

The airplane ascended to 30,000 feet, and I continued on to 50,000 feet.

Still waiting to come down from the high of surviving.

Your hyperbole is baseless. That might be the case on the cheap discount flights from Europe to Turkey, the ones that feature the fights and the diversions, but it is most certainly not the case on the  major airlines. Most passengers are not stoned or inebriated when departing, despite the urban myth. Yes, some people are, but they are the small minority.

First off, champagne is not served in the non premium classes. Nor is alcohol served until the aircraft is at cruising altitude and out of a turbulence zone.  I don't know how often you fly, but as a frequent flyer in premium class, the alcohol service  has been cut back over the years. The complementary champagne pre takeoff  that some airlines serve is less than 100 ml. If people are  showing up to flights  stoned to oblivion, then they pick the option of burning alive  when the plane has a failed takeoff. I just don't need them in my way counting unicorns and rainbows, delaying my quick exit.

I was in Phuket at the time.  Many people did not get off the aircraft.

I could be fully baked and still way more cognizant and functional than any drunk piss head on a plane. You probably don’t understand much about how marijuana affects the brain, but as soon as you get hit with any real life situation that you have to deal with then the high immediately goes away. It’s all psychoactive. It’s not like somebody who’s got a high blood alcohol level that lose control of their judgment and balance. You really don’t have a clue about how the two different drugs affect the brain, but that’s OK. You can go on with your misconceptions and I’ll leave to it. Bye.

I bake all the time while flying. I use small disposible vapes or small carts. By small I mean half grammers that you can toss if necessary.

I have various techniques to ensure a relaxed flight but I do not carry anything when transiting through the Middle East or Turkey.

Regardless of where I am going, when leaving the States, Germany, Thailand or Cambodia, I do an edible right before security. I then top up with the vape.

So you vape in the airport before boarding ? Pretty stupid actually based on governing laws as they are not the same in airports or planes as in country.  Edibles far safer

Depends on the airport

Do edibles not take a couple of hours to take effect. And you COULD be tested for Internal Possession in some countries, eg UAE, and that's not nice.

Actually. you are very much mistaken! I didn't buy it; it was made for me for free by a grateful Thai man (a qualified tailor) for taking care of his daughter (in the most honorable way). I wore it only twice, once to go to the opera (where that photo was taken) and at which I was voted the best dressed man! The other occasion was at a Thai wedding, both times in 2006.

You will be pleased to know, I no longer have it - the suit, that is!

T'was just a dash of cheeky commentary and you turned that around nicely with your positive story, so props to you...

..... If nothing else, it sounds like the tailor managed to steal the show without even hitting a single high note !!!!

Thank you, Richard,

As an interesting anecdote connected with the Opera in Bangkok that night, I was invited to meet The Singer that was "Madam Butterfly" and others in the cast at the after-show party, not because of my suit but I was then a friend of the Conductor of the orchestra from whom I got free tickets for myself, my then English wife and the young lady with me that was to become our adopted daughter, she by my side in that photo!

Seems like a good idea.   Although ...

... and unlikely to happen, but, if traveling through strict drug law country, and some official decides to make you take a urine test, then surely you'd be violating any 'use of' laws, and you may end up at a new destination.

Having travelled monthly all over the world for the last 30 years on not one occasion have i been asked for a piss test as soon as i enter a country....what a strange comment.

I travel stoned all the time, as you say check in first just to have a clear head for that, once i have boarding pass i engage.

All depends how you present yourself to any 'officials'.  Appearance, attire, behavior means a lot.

For someone to even ask how to travel stoned, screams ignorance and not knowing how to do it responsibly.

My caution was for any idiots that haven't a clue.   Plenty of news-blips of those folks, some attracting attention, others not so much, and maybe having med in a container that shows up on x-ray.

Keep on person, in plastic bag, so not to set of scanner while walking through, and nothing bulky of course.

I'm not really big on recommending illegal activity to people I don't personally know.  I assume they are idiots for asking, so will error on the side of caution & warning, not to be an idiot....politely :coffee1:

I think you've understood, we're talking about travelling while high to help pass what are, for the most part, very boring flights.

We're not talking about smuggling, well i'm not anyway.

Also don't mean smuggling, but some, may carry some en-route, and if not extremely careful, end up in a lot of trouble, country dependents.

I'm actually surprised how many people either misunderstood or didn't really read my OP and think that I have any interest in carrying any form of cannabis with me onto a commercial flight, which clearly I don't.

My question was only about whether or not it's a good idea to be fully baked when sitting onboard a long, boring commercial flight. It had nothing to do with carrying anything with me onto the plane or in my luggage to another destination, as stated.

If I do decide to do this before a flight, I would only take a little bit of edible cannabis-infused oil with me to the airport in a syringe. Then, once I've gotten my boarding pass, I would swallow the oil from the syringe in a restroom stall, discard it in the rubbish, and then proceed to go through airport security and then onto immigration. So nothing illegal.

I would be on a full stomach before I ingested the oil in order to delay the onset of the effects as long as possible. That should give me hopefully close to two hours time before the buzz starts coming on. By that time, I'll likely already be on the plane. And then the effect of it will last about 5 to 6 hours, during which time I will only be speaking briefly with flight attendants about food. And by the time I reach my destination, the effects will have fully worn off. So I won't be getting off the plane in a state. If anything, I might be a bit groggy while I'm standing on the line to pass through immigration at my flight destination. I'm barely going to talk with anybody the entire time, nor am I going to display any unusual behavior. If anything, it will help keep me relaxed while others on a flight are doing annoying things around me.

So it sounds like it should be a good way to fly, the only real question is how baked should I get? I've gotten the dosing on my oil dialed in really well, so I know exactly how much I need to take, depending on how high I want to get. Something I'll decide upon on the day of a flight, depending upon how I'm feeling as I head to the airport.
