Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has ignited debate after claiming that illegal immigrants are disproportionately involved in sexual violence in Italy. Speaking during an interview with *Donna Moderna* on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, Meloni addressed the sensitive topic of gender-based violence, linking it to issues of immigration and public safety.  

 

 

Meloni asserted that tackling mass illegal immigration could enhance efforts to make public spaces safer for women. She stated, "Now I will be called a racist, but there is a greater incidence, unfortunately, in cases of sexual violence, by immigrants," specifying that this was particularly true of those who entered the country illegally. She explained her reasoning further, saying that when individuals "have nothing, a 'degeneration' occurs that can lead anywhere."  

 

Acknowledging the complexities of gender-based violence, Meloni emphasized the need for a strong legal and policing framework. "We need to guarantee the presence of the police, guarantee that there are crimes, [and] guarantee that when someone commits a crime they pay for that crime," she remarked.  

 

The Prime Minister’s comments come amid heightened awareness around gender-based violence in Italy. Last week, a foundation was inaugurated in honor of Giulia Cecchetin, a 22-year-old woman who was tragically kidnapped and murdered by her ex-boyfriend. The case has intensified public discussions on how best to address violence against women.  

 

Meloni's remarks, however, have drawn sharp criticism. Italian Education Minister Giuseppe Valditara recently faced backlash for making a similar claim, suggesting that illegal immigration was linked to rising incidents of sexual violence. Valditara’s statements provoked outrage, with opposition figures accusing him of perpetuating falsehoods. More Europe leader Riccardo Magi refuted the claims, citing official data from the Ministry of the Interior that attributes over 80% of femicides in Italy to Italian citizens.  

 

Magi lambasted Valditara's remarks, describing them as "shameless racist exploitation" and pointing out that such claims are not supported by available statistics. The tension reflects a broader divide in Italy over the intersection of immigration, public safety, and violence against women.  

Meloni's candid acknowledgment that her remarks might draw accusations of racism underscores the controversy surrounding the topic. Her government’s approach to immigration and public safety continues to be a polarizing issue, with critics accusing it of scapegoating marginalized groups while supporters praise its focus on law and order.

It was a mistake to try and explain anything in relation to illegal immigrants. They are illegal, best prevented from landing in the first place but if they do manage to get to land deport them immediately, or send them to a camp in the middle of a desert somewhere to wait for their review.

 

Australia has the best way of dissuading them on the planet. It's time to kick the woke into touch on this issue, sooner the better.

I had hopes that Meloni would actually do what she said before the election. Unfortunately she turned out to be another empty paper bag politician that promises the world to get elected and then abandons everything they promised once in the big chair.

Talking about ranting, it's funny how some people see wokeism everywhere, even where there is very little of it. 

 

In Italy deeply rooted Catholic culture predates wokeism by a couple of thousand years at least, and respect for the Catholic church's dictates is still dominant, especially among more conservative circles. Pope Francis has called anti-migrant measures "grave sins". He has also said that it is a "grave sin" to not offer aid to migrant vessels. He doubled down by blaming wealthy countries for the increase in immigration numbers, saying they are responsible because of their economic strength and energy policies. No mention of the corruption, nepotism, violation of fundamental human rights, excessive demographic expansion, illiteracy which plague the countries from which emigrants are running away.

You only have to look at the treatment of women in the cultures they come from. They are not suddenly going to adopt new belief systems after a week in a hostel in Milan.

Meloni heads a coalition government. It's unlikely that she has free rein to implement all the policies she wants to.

Perhaps Trump will insist that some folk at the soon to be revamped Dept of Justice, seek data and publish what is becoming anecdotally apparent from numerous media reports in Europe and I expect replicated to some degree in the USA.

What do you expect of young men brainwashed by some clerics about sexuality, and the worth of women in society. It happens all over the world. However genital mutilation, forced marriages, female subjugation is notably more apparent in some Islamic societies e.g. Afghanistan, Pakistan, Syria, as well as predominantly Hindu, India. I say some Islamic societies, as in my model Islamic countries of Indonesia and Bangladesh, women are treated with respect and have held high office positions for decades. So this is not an Islam beat up per se, but the issue should not be ignored.

Proof that even idiots can lead a political party. Femicides are not the same as sexual violence crimes, and 20% by non-italians is still disproportionate.
