I just got some great news from the Thai family.  My niece is having a baby.  The boyfriend doesn't want to be in the picture.  But I guess they are still both young.  And this kind of thing happens often in Thailand.  We are all so happy as any Buddhist should be.

I will help them out.  She will take the GED.  She is already attending the classes at one of those mall schools.  Her English is getting really good now.  A few practice tests and then it is down to the testing centre.  After she gets her highschool diploma she will start university and I will pay for it in full.  Because the effects of education transcend generations.

Always do the right thing no matter how badly you have been treated.

How about you?  Are you still the free happy go lucky stud in Thailand or are you surrounded by kids toys and family?

Unless you volunteer to take care of the baby Uni will be a bit difficult.

Best get the baby adopted or she's never going to have a life of her own otherwise.

For feck's sake get her fitted with a coil or it's going to happen again.

I used to be bothered by seeing 75-year-old men pushing a baby carriage with their 18-year-old bride, thinking the baby would not grow up with a father, the mother dealing with raising the child alone...

... Then I remembered 'This is Thailand.' The whole family does the child-rearing, with the parents often away working. That's the norm here, quite different from the US or UK.

I'm not suggesting it's better or worse, just that this is Thai culture.
