Yikes. Do you really think it's wise to take advice here. ChatGPT might be a more reliable friend. -

Canada is Petrified
I agree with your GDP analysis but that's thinking like an economist which Trump is not (remember Trump's "Drill baby, drill?). Trump thinks in terms of personal wealth and how he can become wealthier. Why did Trump want to buy Iceland? It had nothing to do with GDP. It's about gaining personal control of Canadian resources in the same manner as one sees with Russian oligarchs. Putin wasn't thinking of increasing Russia's GDP when he captured Ukraine's offshore oil&gas platforms during his invasion of Ukraine. Canada ranks fourth of countries by value of its natural resources (including coal, timber, natural gas, uranium, precious metals such as gold). It has the world's third largest oil deposits and ranks fourth in terms of natural resource value following Russia, US and Saudi Arabia. -

IT Officer Confesses to Bomb Hoax at Bangkok International School, Sparking Mass Evacuation
Picture courtesy of Matichon An IT officer has admitted to fabricating a bomb threat that led to the evacuation of nearly 1,000 people from a prestigious international school in Bangkok. The incident caused widespread panic and a massive police response. On December 9, at 11:25, Pol. Col. Surapong Putkao, Superintendent of Pravet Police Station, received a report from Mr. Jesada, an IT officer at the school located on Krungthep Kreetha Road in Thap Chang, Saphan Sung district. Mr. Jesada claimed to have received an email in English threatening to bomb the school. Concerned for the safety of students and staff, he immediately alerted the police. Authorities, including Bangkok Police Chief Pol. Lt. Gen. Siam Boonsom and multiple high-ranking officers, swiftly responded. Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams, police dogs, and school staff collaborated to inspect the premises. After thorough checks using bomb-detection equipment, no explosive devices or suspicious items were found. By 14:30, the school had safely evacuated approximately 970 students, and the area was declared secure. Later, investigators summoned Mr. Jesada for further questioning. Under pressure, he admitted to sending the email himself. He confessed that he fabricated the threat out of anger and fear of losing his job after a dispute with the school. He also revealed that he was responsible for the disappearance of IT equipment, including 32 computers and iPads under his care. The school’s director, Mr. Christopher, confirmed the events and acknowledged the missing equipment. The school administration is considering disciplinary actions against Mr. Jesada, while the police have taken him into custody for filing a false report. -- 2024-12-11 -

Canada is Petrified
I have yet to buy anything I can say is good quality from China. Not in 30 years... Cheaper yes. But not good quality that lasts.. The US needs to start making their own goods again of quality that they used to. Not being dependent on imported goods of lesser quality. People do not mind paying more if something is of value and the quality is worth making the purchase. The problem is and always has been that because 3rd world labor is cheap and manufacturing is cheap making it available for even the poor to buy. Those are the ones who will suffer when tariffs are given. Perhaps, if there are new opportunities for Americans to make their own quality goods again then the prices will be reduced and people around the world will begin to want American products again. But i do not see that happening for a long time. Instead prices may increase for the cheaper quality goods rather than people taking the opportunity to make their own high quality goods. Made in America no longer means good quality. Although, I think if something is made in America even with imported goods the quality is better than buying in Asia. Perhaps some of you do not know but what is sold in China to the Chinese is not the same quality as what is shipped out to other countries. -

7 Types of Used Cars to Avoid in Thailand
Anything that's not a Toyota or Honda owned by someone who isn't rich enough to change the oil every 6 months (oil degrades in the stupid heat in 6 months regardless of mileage). Don't be a fool to buy a Bangkok vehicle that's been in a flood or overheated in a 2 hour traffic jam because it was so <deleted> hot they couldn't turn off the AC and the engine overheated. 🐣 -

Swiss Man Attempts Suicide Amid Financial Struggles in Thailand
Picture courtesy: Daily News A 66-year-old Swiss national wrote a suicide note before severely injuring himself with a box cutter in a Pattaya home. Despite the severity of his injuries, he initially refused medical treatment until reassured by friends and neighbours. On 10th December, police in Nong Prue, Chonburi, responded to reports of a foreigner's self-harm incident at a residence in Soi Khao Talo. Upon arrival, they found blood leading from the kitchen to the bathroom where Mr R, with deep wounds on both sides of his neck, was sitting against a wall. His friend, Mr Yong, discovered him in this state and had been administering first aid. Emergency services from the Sawang Boriboon Foundation quickly provided initial medical care, but Mr R resisted hospitalisation, expressing a desire to die. After nearly an hour of persuasion by those close to him, he agreed to be taken to Banglamung Hospital. Mr Yong revealed that Mr R had been under severe stress and depression, exacerbated by being deceived out of almost all his money by a former Thai wife. The financial distress reportedly also stemmed from his fear of being unable to cover medical expenses. Police found a suicide note on the dining table stating, "my love Prayong I’m so sorry it’s not your wrong! I have made my life wrong. and I have no way out “sorry” R." Alongside the note was a blood-stained cutter. Mr Rr had reportedly been waiting for hours, believing there was no alternative due to his financial woes and pending legal issues with his ex-wife. His condition was stabilised after assurances of financial help for his treatment, reported Daily News. -- 2024-12-11 -
