Retire with? No. Make a business or living with, sure can, I use half of that to make 2K usd monthly since 7+ years. Just some years ago, you could have bought 10 bitcoin with it too.

A fool needs tons of money.

Finally an intelligent reply.

1 million baht....as if.

But this is my current balance in a Thai bank account which made me think....what if this was all the money I had to live with for the next 14 years? What would I do?

Question. How do you use 500k baht to make 2usd a month? Trading crypto? I don't have issue with crypto, as I trade it myself a little, but I have issue with exchanges. They have proven time and time again to be scamming and thieving enterprises.

Yet, you are the one following me around. Who's jealous?

If you had been asking a genuine question, one option would be: blow it all on a month of high living, then enter the monkhood and live for free with the memories ...

But Thais can do it

No, they can't, and neither could you.  What visa do you think you'd qualify for, or do you plan on spending 2-3-4 month budget on an agent to skirt the law ?

Better to be a bum in your home country.  Get a cup, and stand on the corner, or next to an ATM, as I hear it's a good income.   Better than working for some.   Rent a kid to sit next to you to maximize your income.

Times are tough and I am going through some financial difficulties. All I have left in my bank account is 1,042,356.23 baht. Will this be enough until i get my government pension in 14 years?

NO

This question is not relevant. You even cannot survive with this ammount, even you live as a very poor man. But, and this is more important: how do you think to fullfil the financial immigration requierments with NO INCOME??? You will stay 14 years illegal in Thailand?

That will be a solution when they cath you and will be locked up in the BKK Hilton: there you can stay for free.

14 years til pension?  So assume age is about 48 or so if pension comes at age 62?

how about go back to work somewhere and live frugally and save every penny you can stash away  rather than try to retire at early age when you clearly don't have the $$?

12 years ago you could live in comfort ( DEPENDING ON LOCATION AND LIFESTYLE ) on $600.00 to $800.00USD a month.

Today you WILL need $1200.00USD  MINIMUM to live a decent lifestyle.

It all depends on LOCATION 1st, then LIFESTYLE.  I live in a 2BR UNFURNISHED house - spent $2000USD to furnish on move in, yard with veggie garden, gated upper class community, 15 minutes from 4 major stores and the IO, many mom & pop stores in area, fishing lake 2 minutes.  Rent averages $129.00USD ( 4500bt ) a month for last 3 years.

Our ( 2 people ) monthly costs range from low end $1500USD to $2000USD+ a month for everything including:

2 Mobile's, fiber WiFi and TV, Mortgage on her BKK Condo and food.

Many Thais live on less than $500USD a month.

Holiday trips and travel NOT included.

Over time we have furnished the house completely.

I do not have that much in savings - I have maybe 500k in uk bank and 160k here in Thailand, I do not get my UK pension for another 6.5 years. However I have enough money coming in due to early 55 year pension and renting out my UK home fir a daft amount (70k sh). I planned to have money in older age and finish work early - I have my 35 years national insurance paid for my full uk pension.

1 million baht with no other income is near impossible to retire here - but it would be more than enough if you had - like me - other income. Rent of reasonable house would be 10k a months , 120k a year and that's a;; your money gone in rent alone.

I would suggest it would be possible on 5 million with no income for 14 years , but less and you are in the crapper very quickly.

Just point our that an agent would be about 22,000 for the first year and then about 14,000 per year after - assuming the poster is using the 1 million as money for food/rent for 14 years. That's 204,000 for 14 years and is 20% of his budget basically for nothing other than right to stay.

What I love about Thailand is that you can live on any budget.

You can exist on any budget.

Pay a rice farmer 500 baht to live in his lean-to in the rice field.

No electric bill.

Free paddy water.

Frogs and snakes and feral cats are delicious.

Collect bottles and cans for recycling to pay cell phone bill.

Earn a few bucks a month streaming your life live on HoboTube.
