The Transport Ministry is halting construction activities on Rama II Road from December 26 to January 2. This measure aims to facilitate smoother travel for those heading south during the New Year holiday.

 

Transport Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit noted the importance of easing travel on this major route. Additionally, efforts are being made to restore the road surface as much as possible to reduce congestion. Travelers are advised to plan their routes in advance to avoid traffic jams.

 

This suspension follows a crane accident on November 29 at the construction site of the Ekkachai-Ban Phaeo Intercity Motorway 82 (M82) in Samut Sakhon, which resulted in six worker deaths and nine injuries.

 

 

Minister Suriya has tasked agencies like the Department of Highways and the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand to assess contractor performance. This evaluation will be noted in a Contractor's Notebook, which may lead to the removal of contractors failing to meet safety standards.

 

A fact-finding committee, including the Engineering Institute of Thailand, has been set up to investigate the M82 accident. Results are expected by mid-month. Meanwhile, efforts to clear the accident site are underway, with the removal of concrete segments and dismantling of a steel structure expected to be completed soon.

On Rama II it will be safe. With that construction site and 3km/h "speed" the risk of accidents is not so high anymore.

That highway construction project is one of the greatest abominations in Asia, everyone associated with that project should be fired or jailed. Apparently this guy is responsible for transport. He should be brought before a committee to answer for this project and the 15 year delay.

Smoother but definitely not safer... many will not see the New Year in.

Sooooo.. Outside of these dates.. Good luck! No mention of any changes in safety or better project management. Just one more "committee". TIT.

Construction stops for safety reasons and the contractors leave the sites with poor warning signage and inadequate lighting causing more accidents

Surely, this should have already been in operation when you look at the appalling safety record there over the last, what, 15 years at least. The brown envelope pile must probably reach to the top of the new roadway.

My wife and I last Saturday took the Suvarnaphumi-Hua Hin bus.

 

After the gridlock crawl of the first part of the journey, once the bus passed the Rama 2 crash site, the bus now attempted to make up time by driving like a bat out of hell.

We have never been so scared in all our lives (despite intimate knowledge of "normal" safety on Thai roads).  Basically, we just shut our eyes and prayed.

AVOID this particular means of reaching Hua Hin.  Train or even taxi would be less life threatening....

With the biggest/heaviest car you can afford.

 

The best safety tip in the universe considering travelling anywhere in The Land of Fake Smiles.

 

Even when I go abroad for a month, or a month and a half, I park my 3 ton Ford V6 Ranger Raptor at Suvarnabhumi.

 

Cannot be any safer.

 

And I don't have to deal with Thai taxi mafia, which is another plus.

 

I should get paid for giving so good advise to fellow westernes.

PS: You should have recorded screen-shot-video of Google Maps showing the actual speed of the bus and contacted Thai Rath (the largest Thai newspaper) or one of the Thai TV channels.
