A crash occurred as a military van driver, returning from a longboat race, lost control, crashed into a tree, and overturned, resulting in three fatalities and injuries to more than ten passengers.

On December 6, Pol. Lt. Col. Montree Kaewsuriya, Deputy Superintendent (Investigation) of Ngao Police Station, along with rescue personnel from Ngao Hospital and local rescue teams, responded to an emergency call about a serious accident on the Lampang-Ngao road near Ban Rong in Ngao District, Lampang Province.

At the scene, a gray Toyota van with Chiang Rai license plates was found severely damaged in the road’s central divider. Debris and personal belongings were scattered across the area. Rescue workers quickly assisted approximately ten injured passengers, evacuating them from the vehicle and rushing them to the hospital.

Two fatalities were discovered at the scene. The first was the driver, identified as Mr. Apichai, 22, and the second was Mrs. Wirunrat. A third victim, Ms. Chulaluck, succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

Initial investigations revealed that the passengers were military personnel from a camp in Phayao Province. They were returning from a longboat racing event in Pathum Thani. It is suspected that the driver fell asleep at the wheel, compounded by the area’s multiple sharp curves.

Police are conducting further investigations at the crash site and reviewing CCTV to determine the exact cause of the incident.

A trip obviously done in the interest of national security.

The military should be investigating as well.

Sad. I guess most of the victims and injured didn't wear safety belts. When will they learn?  On a bus or a van I am usually the only one properly strapped.
